Publisher's summary

“Abide in my love.” (Johh 15:9)

As followers of Christ, we long to grow in godliness, but we often find ourselves stuck. Sin runs deep, we continue to fail, and we are easily tempted to give up. It doesn’t have to be that way.

In How Does God Change Us?, Dane Ortlund explains how those united to Jesus Christ do not need to look anywhere but to Christ himself for real growth. We change by going deeper into the same truths that saved us in the first place. With timeless counsel from historical Christian figures, Ortlund shows you how to get traction in your spiritual walk, experience real change, and live out your invincible identity in Christ.

The deeper we go into the gospel the more we change into the likeness of Christ

Excellently written book about the faithfulness and steadfast love of Christ to a soul that trusts in Him. Enjoyed it immensely.

Life Changing

Hello friends, this book will revolutionize my life. For so many years I have felt like God was angry with me. For so long I felt like I have disappointed God and let him down and not lived up to the measure of godliness that He requires of me. My life has been filled with failure and triumph. I have endeavored to follow him with my whole heart, clinging hard to the plow, laboring for his love. Dane Ortland has demonstrated to me that this is folly; indeed a fools folly. Now I can rest knowing that in Christ I am loved and I am accepted. Thank you so much for this gentle loving reminder. Thank you Lord Jesus for the grace and mercy that you have lavished on me.

A breath of hope

A breath of hope that has begun the lifelong exercise of looking to Jesus, and an affirmation, that God through His Holy Spirit will do in me what all my efforts of “being good” or “doing better” can’t. I am 63 yo and am tired of the internal spiritual ping pong.

The relief of knowing I am not tainting my salvation by sinning.

"How Does God change Us" seems to be a repetition of "Deeper" but in the Bible, God repeats concepts to impress into the minds of Christians, the necessity of comprehending the message. Ortland emphasizes the need to practice Biblical principles in our lives. Thanks, Dane!

Required reading for all followers of Christ

Succinct, yet deeply profound. I will read/listen to this many more times in my lifetime as a meditation on my spiritual walk with Christ.

God’s tender heart

Wow how I loved having Ray Ortlund as my pastor in Nashville and how I can hear the strength of God’s love generationally. I can only hope to look to Christ and strengthen my family by going deeper into my union with Christ.

I highly recommend Dane’s books as well as gentle and lowly/deeper!

Just what I needed.

I’m a long time baby boomer Christian. Life has gotten harder with becoming an empty nester, newly divorced and just tired of making ends meet financially. Yet, I know the truth of the Triune God. However, I needed encouragement that was not full of the author’s stories and applications. This book was perfect, simplistic, and reaffirming truth from a view of sanctification. So good, I will be listening to it many more times. It was very enjoyable while listening to/from work!
