Publisher's summary

A riveting historical narrative of the shocking events surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and the follow-up to mega-bestselling author Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

In January 1961, as the Cold War escalates, John F. Kennedy struggles to contain the growth of Communism while he learns the hardships, solitude, and temptations of what it means to be president of the United States. Along the way he acquires a number of formidable enemies, among them Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Alan Dulles, director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition, powerful elements of organized crime have begun to talk about targeting the president and his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy. In the midst of a 1963 campaign trip to Texas, Kennedy is gunned down by an erratic young drifter named Lee Harvey Oswald. The former Marine Corps sharpshooter escapes the scene, only to be caught and shot dead while in police custody. The events leading up to the most notorious crime of the 20th century are almost as shocking as the assassination itself. Killing Kennedy chronicles both the heroism and deceit of Camelot, bringing history to life in ways that will profoundly move the listener. This may well be the most talked about book of the year.

Very well done!

Would you listen to Killing Kennedy again? Why?

Yes! I would listen to this one again. There are so many facts and details included in this book and I am sure I missed some the first time around.

What does Bill O'Reilly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He has a great reading voice and listening to him makes it seem like a movie.

Any additional comments?

I am fascinated with this time period in American history. This book is well written and reads more like fiction.

Solid listen

Interesting stuff. Another good book by billy O. I find him easy to listen too, and I also prefer when the author narrates his own book. I’m my experience the books are better listens. As is the case with all the Bill O’Reilly “killing” books.

Several new details

Having lived through the assassination and funeral as a 12 year old, I knew many of the details and conspiracy theories. Bill O'Reilly managed to mention the details of the numerous conspiracy theories without getting bogged down in unknowable facts. He also revealed numerous details that I was unaware of.
Overall I highly recommend the book.

Couldn’t put it down!!

I admittedly have not read many books about JFK, you hear so much about him in academic books or in passing through news reports that flashback to his assassination and make comparisons to current Presidents, but I never consumed such a concentrated amount of details of the beloved President. The level of details painted in this book allowed the story of JFK and his supporting characters to easily play out in my mind like a movie, but better. There were so many details I never knew, from his WWII heroic tale to the strained relationship he had with his VP. I immediately looked up old videos of interviews and speeches referenced in the book! I appreciate the story of JFK all the more now, thanks to Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. Highly recommend!

I truly enjoyed listening to this book!

I am not as well read about JFK so I enjoyed this book immensely. I heard a lot of stuff I had forgotten or hadn't heard before. I have a long commute to and from work and over ther last several days I couldn't wait to drive back and forth to work. I'm a fan of Bill O'Reilly and this was my first but not my last book of the killing series.
