Publisher's summary

Amusing and informative, Hey Ranger! teaches as it entertains with tales of boat-ramp misadventures, lost Afghani campers, encounters with wild animals, dumb crooks, and more. One chapter, "Tales from the Wild Side", brings together unusual incidents from National Park Service reports, and the concluding essay, "Don't Be a Victim of Your Vacation", advises visitors on how to avoid being a story on the evening news.

Great stories and lessons.

The author has an excellent story telling style. These are great stories and some wonderful lessons can be learned. I can relate to many of these stories having worked in the back country.

Funny and Interesting

Jim does a great job of retailing a tale with all the peculiarities intact. He infuses humor as it happened as I know too well, reliving one of the stories where I was a rescuer.
Thanks Jim!

Great Outdoor Listen

The humor mixed with common sense and interesting stories made my outdoor work so enjoyable and has me googling all the National Parks! I wish there were more Jim Burnett books on Audible. Narration was wonderful, like sitting by a campfire with a Ranger sharing stories over a good cup of coffee.

WHAT A FUN WAY TO TRAVEL THE COUNTRY

I've already listened to this book twice. It's pure fun and entertainment.
While stuck at home during a pandemic to be able to travel to the beautiful National Parks with such a
nice guide at my side was delight.

Funny Collection of National Park Mishaps

This was a wonderful book of tales from rangers in the National Park system. Both human and animal mishaps, bad decisions and clueless visitors are featured. The bad decisions and clueless visitors sections are gems and very funny. The last chapter is full of excellent advice and tips to help your park visit be a happy one. Many people get hurt or killed visiting the National Parks and some of these incidents could have been prevented if people had used common sense. A lighthearted, fun read. I listened on audio and the audio quality wasn't the greatest, I had to frequently turn up the volume to hear.

just ok

The stories could be interesting and even entertainjng, but the narrator does not do the book justice. He's obviously an older gentleman, and thats ok! But the inflection of his voice is rather flat with not much change.

Kind of Fun Kind of Lecture

I enjoyed the stories of the park rangers, but it is also a reminder that when in the wilderness one needs to be aware of your responsibilities. Overall it was an enjoyable listen.

Vey funny!

I absolutely enjoyed this book with great advice and very funny stories. The book is a little dated but the information is excellent even for today.

Not the whole package

The stories were humorous for the most part but the book suffered substantially in it's choice of narrator. His style made it much harder to stay engaged.
