Publisher's summary

Bored and fed up with life, staring down a 50th birthday, Mike Tyler was looking for a change. Life had become routinized and unexciting. Maybe it was a mid-life crisis, or maybe just a yearning for one last big adventure. Mike decides to try hiking from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail, just to see what happens.

Mike convinces his wife, Margo, to join him. Together, they embark on a five-month hike full of anticipation. They hike through some of the most stunning and remote places in the country on a trail full of unique, offbeat characters. But the trail had even more to offer than either of them had anticipated.

Great story

What a great story and an amazing journey they had together. I hope to do the PCT or the AT when I retire.

Non-stressful

It was an OK read, but the very simplified style of the author felt like I was reading a children’s book.

Narrator's voice

The narrator's voice tones just don't go well with the story. It's not that he has a voice that's irritating it just doesn't fit this type of story. He would do better doing children's books or something. It could have been longer, but overall I enjoyed the context.

Overall an interesting book

The narrative and the description of their adventure was interesting to listen to. I wish they had included more details. The conversations were kind of cheesy and the narrator trying to use a female voice was even worse but overall a good read.

Good story

I’ll always enjoy a trail journal. This was a fairly typical one and I appreciated to couple aspect to it. The narration felt a bit forced to me and at times it was enough to distract me from the story itself. I’m glad it was a free download with my audible plan.

Somewhat disappointed

I’m not sure if it was the tone of the writing or the reader’s voice, but so many times I felt like I was listening to immature and whining conversations. Often the author made rash descriptions or judgments ... thankfully he included the fact that he DID later evolve his thinking, but it felt so awkward in between. I can’t quite put my finger in it.

The story was certainly valuable enough to hear to the end, but it was frustrating to listen to. Now I’m wondering if this would have been better to read rather than listen. (?)

Terrible narration

Run off the mill retelling of through hike. I have read and/or listened to much worse.

The narration was really bad

great story for interest in hiking

The story itself was great. didn't care for the narrator. I don't mind a single narrator just didn't care for the way the story was read

A couple's hike

I've listened to several thru-hiking adventures, hoping to do my own someday. I am 37 and felt like the sentiments, experiences and values of this writer more closely aligned to mine than any others. To listen to a couples adventure on the trail was refreshing and unique! I enjoyed it immensely.
