Publisher's summary

He’s forged from heaven. She’s promised to hell.

Professor Maximus Kane can no longer deny his passion for his stunning yet mysterious student, Kara Valari. But surrendering to their desires carries more consequences than just violating the Alameda University conduct codes. Kara has defied her destiny. Higher directives have been violated. Now there’s hell to pay.

It’s a crisis for which there seems no solution, until the explosive secrets of Maximus’s bloodline are exposed. Despite all his doubts and fears, Maximus has no choice but to accept help from his enigmatic father, which means coming to terms with his heritage and embracing a bizarre new world of gods and demons. Because somewhere in that world - in the strange and sordid secrets surrounding his past - is the key to protecting Kara’s future. Nothing has ever meant more to him than saving the treasure of her life and the fire of her heart.

While earth’s lower realms seek payback for Kara’s transgressions, Kara finds a new ally in a surprising place: the Valari matriarch herself. Beneath the scrutiny of the world press, Veronica orchestrates a plan to protect her daughter by doing what she does best - shining the spotlight on her. But by her side, Maximus can’t escape the glare of the paparazzi.

Can they buy time and blind their enemies with Kara’s fame? Or will Hollywood’s new “it” couple and their forbidden love incite more vengeance than they’d ever bargained for?

Great Story - be prepared

I just finished Heart of Fire and I don’t even know how to write a proper review for book 2.

We get more Maximus and Kara and I love the relationship that they are building together. We get to learn more about Maximus, his mom, and his family. On the Kara front they spend more time in the spotlight while waiting to see how their relationship is going to disturb Hades.

Just when you are enjoying Maximus and Kara’s time together - don’t let your guard down. You won’t believe what’s coming your way.

Love, love, love their story and can’t wait to see how their story ends.

This is what I'm talking about!

The first book set the tone and this book is the story, the meat AND the potatoes. Almost everything is explained from who is Maximus' dad? Why did his mother not tell him about his dad? What did Kara's grandfather do to damn his entire family? Then the ultimate happens and now we are scrambling. I. Can. Not. Wait!!!!

Great all around

Great continuation. Love the strong characters that aren't afraid to show their feelings towards each other.
Great performance by the narrators. Love the dual POV's.

Making Deals with the Devil

Honestly the book was good. No complaints about the writing but yet I am still not satisfied. One meeting with the so called Gods and a few revelations but nothing exciting. Haedes reminds of the character Haedes from Xena Warrior Princess the show. He always wanted what he should not have and always took at the cost to others. He demands everyone to play by his rules and yet follow none of them himself. My hope is that Max finds his true strength and show his uncle no mercy.

loved the continuing story !

This second book in the series continues the story. I can't really see this ending though in the third book. I an eagerly awaiting the 3rd book and hoping that's not going to be it. I feel very invested in the characters!!

Good Story, but

I am really enjoying this book. However, I resent the fact that I have to spend a credit to get to the next section. Because of that I am going to stop listening and won’t by the next book.

Frustrating.

I have to start by saying that I really wanted to like this series but for me it just never develops quite right. With the first book it dragged out until the end before you knew what was going on. I got the second in hopes that it would finally get to the point of the story and although this book is better than the first, it is still a let down.
