This book gave me life! I was already thinking vegan. I saw Russell Simmons on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday. He talked about being vegan and meditation. So....I bought the book! It was like an investment. I went through it so fast that I was disappointed when it ended. He explained the benefits from all angles. I really liked that everything wasn't just from his perspective...he referenced so many others. My favorite part was when he explained that its okay when we mess up because we're human (just pick back up and keep it moving...he even gave examples). That was huge for me. The book ended with helpful resources for vegans and also with a snippet of info on meditation....it was just enough good listening about meditation to entice me to buy his book Success Through Stillness...
Loved this book!! I am already Vegan but it reminded me of the reasons why I choose this lifestyle (compassion for animals) and gave me more reasons to be grateful for my decision (better health and a stronger body). I have been putting of meditation and yoga for awhile but after finishing this book I am getting started!!
The narration by Black Ice was perfect.
This book is a good overview of veganism that might be more approachable than something like "How Not to Die" or "The China Study". I like how Simmons intertwined veganism with a more compassionate and self-aware lifestyle. If you are already vegan, this book doesn't provide anything new or astounding, but is interesting and will certainly reaffirm what you already believe.
Yes, I would. I love Russell Simmons and appreciate him wanting to educate and help people find "happiness". Black Ice narrated the book well and I enjoyed his voice.

Narrator has a great voice for the book. Sounds natural, flows and easy to understand. Some narrators annoy me after about 15 minutes, so I was able to listen through the whole book.
The Happy Vegan was a good book but was filled with information that I knew. It was somewhat worth the listening time. I feel like the story was 50% statistics so it was information I could get off the internet, but I love that Russell is sharing his experience and an advocate for better health in US.
I feel like I've been living on another planet and I'm the alien. I still thought our food came from farms. This book is a AHA moment. Thank you so much for the information that lead me to Food Inc and other videos. This makes my shift to vegan and meditation very meaningful. I've been attending hot yoga classes for the last year and a half, but still did not know anything about the animal abuse. Thanks again for the eye opener. I haven't been keeping this to myself. This book was a pleasure to listen to. I'm already vegan but found it informational and inspiring. My husband, a near-vegetarian, appears now to be heading more into a veg/vegan lifestyle. Russell Simmons' approach to his choices and other peoples' is --in my humble opinion--rational, appropriate and extremely thoughtful. Thank you!!
I enjoyed listening to every second of this book! I decided to become a vegan right before o started it, and the book grounded my decision in every aspect possible. I even feel like I am best friends with Russell now, and will sure look for his book regarding yoga and meditation. I definitely recommend it!
Yes and I will, he is so down to earth I love his bluntness by saying it the way it is.
He speaks from experience and brings facts to his explanations. I have never been hit so hard in my gut at I have been with this book. This is it I have listened to many book but this book is the one and only I would recommend for anyone hesitant in making a change in diet.
He brings that HUMP that tone you have to listen and its like a magnetism you can relate and feel him in front. I even wanted to write to the author to thank him for such an incredible great book.
I must confess when he started talking about the farms and how the animals are treated I got very sick to my stomach to the point I could not eat and needed to take some stomach meds, unreal like I said he punched me in the gut hard, awesome awesome book but only for the hard who can take the truth.
I have not read the print version however I found the book and in particular the speaker very inspiring. I have just started my vegan journey and I needed some encouragement and proof of it's benefits, and I got that in great quantity. Excellent writing and at a pace that kept you interested all the time.

It was really interesting, easy to listen to and very informative. It was full of things I had questions about, and stuff I haven't thought about yet.
I loved the section about the angry vegan and it really made sense.

I really enjoyed this book and it has helped me make the transition to veganism. I particularly valued the relatable anecdotes, practical tips, and the overall non-judgemental and down to earth approach. Would definitely recommend to anyone considering veganism or who would like to understand more about why people do it.

This book is so easy to understand. Absolutely anyone can listen to this and understand the issue. You don't need to be a vegan or even want to be a vegan to listen to this book. I like the fact that this audio book isn't about preaching to you. In fact he allows you to get to the realisation yourself. This audio book is all about raising our awareness, empathy to the world we live in and all the creatures we share it with, think and care about what we put in our bodies and the journey of that foods to your plate. This books makes you realise that our mass consumerism and excesses cannot continue and has destructive damaging and inhumane consequences. The way we are living in the 21st century is not sustainable for the human race or our plant. Something has got to change.
The passion of the writer for the agenda is clearly evident. The narrator was engaging.
The whole book was moving. I would recommend this to everyone to read.
"Absolutely perfect guide and advice"
For someone who is in the process of transitioning from meat eating to pescatarian, hoping to transition there on to vegetarian with my end goal full vegan, I found this book exactly what I needed. it's very informative. I feel I have been educated on alot of facts I just didn't know. I have been given brilliant tips and advise for new food and recipes.
I would recommend this book for anyone who is on the fence or thinking about changing the meat diet for spiritual, health, enviromental, mental and emotional reasons
