Publisher's summary

Are you ready to be a contender? Sly's action-oriented program for getting fit and eating right is a revealing portrait of one of Hollywood's biggest slaves

Sly Moves - part candid autobiography, part nuts-and-bolts training manual, part motivational handbook - is a refreshingly sensible guide to getting immediate results that last a lifetime. It's also a provocative inside look at the trials of a body-conscious star rising in the most image-conscious industry in the world.

The truth is, Sly's personal battle to stay in shape has been as tough as any fight he's waged on screen. The book begins with a very personal history of Sylvester Stallone's famous physique, as the Rocky star shares never-before-told stories about his being bullied as a child, finding comfort and strength in the gym, and then later, the wild ride of fad diets, crash-training regimens and workout disasters that fringed on obsession. Sly knows what works and what definitely doesn't, and these experiences formed Sly's unique fitness and nutrition plan. Part 2 consists of Sly's program for getting physically fit without sacrificing life’s other pleasures. All he requires is three hours a week - that's all Sly needs - for a total body workout, an engaging regimen involving all the major muscle groups and aerobic fitness. The step-by-step program includes four different levels of exercise: classic, advanced, women’s, and for those who dare, The Sly Challenge, a hardcore session pushing it to the max.

Sly has tried every diet imaginable and so in the Sly Moves nutrition plan he highlights a unique meal plan for a lifetime of good eating. He offers his unique perspective on what works and what doesn’t and offers an alternative for health-conscious readers who want great-tasting satisfying food that can become a way of life. The section Gonna Fly Now inspires and encourages listeners to make Sly Moves part of a long-term picture of health, fitness and well-being. This motivational section includes separate chapters on everything from setting and keeping goals to relaxation techniques to lessons learned from his reality-based boxing show The Contender.

good but incomplete

i'm a huge sly fan and found this to be an entertaining read, even informative but to truly benefit from the workout material this audiobook should have offered an accompanimental download for referencing the exercises. that alone would have made this a 5 star read. also, i think stallone actually should have narrated this himself. we're familiar with his unique voice and spend most of the listen imagining him reading it anyway. it would have made for a nice personal touch.

A pretty good listen...

Overall, I enjoyed listening to this book. Sly did good by choosing someone else to narrate this. He touches on the reality of fitness, and offers some good advice. Like most fitness and diet programs, if you've used a few in the past, you'll find yourself picking and choosing what will help you. Comparing it to Bill Phillips talking on the Body For Life program, it's not near as motivating, even leaving you with a little dry feeling. But it will get you solid advice, and it's pretty straight forward. A quick listen at just under three hours. I'll give this book four stars.

Sly moves will help you tremedously.

Would you listen to Sly Moves again? Why?

Yes. This book shows you how he is able to be in great shape in his 50's and 60's. Did you think it's over for you because your a senior? Well, not now!!! You can be stronger, faster and fitter than your 20 and 30 something untrained friends. Just do what this book says.

What did you like best about this story?

The personal details of Stallones own experience, along with the great tips on fitness and nutrition.

Have you listened to any of Robb Webb’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Actually wish that Stallone had narrated it himself, although Robb did a good job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me realize I don't have to fear age. Time flys....but I'm the pilot.

Any additional comments?

Get this book, rent the Rocky Movies...and change your life.

Inspiring.. nothing more

It is sad that this book is so motivating for me, but still there are some key ingridience missing.

I was imaginging Silver Stallone reading the book all the time, it would be cool if he had done that.. but the most importand part is missing.. the exersices. Without them this book is a 3 star book, but should be 5 star!

Short Missing Stupid

Listen to Sly reminisce -- no info - no recipes as referenced in the book. Pretty worthless

Surprizing and informative

I am not a "Sly" fan by any means, but had seen him interviewed numerous times on non cinematic subjects and found him intelligent, driven and amusing. If you want to learn about nutrition, exercise and improving your life, and have an entertaining back story about SS, then this is really a very good book.

Amazingly Inspirational

I have been a fan for a long time. The book was better than I expected, and I expected a lot. I love his down to earth approach to fitness. I so much appreciate the wisdom shared from both his mistakes and successes.

Simple. Easy to understand...

Diet and workout advice by someone who knows what to do and is proven over the years. No stretched out highly scientific advice, but just as good. I listened to it all in one day and I got more from his advice than the hours and hours from others who I barely know.
