Publisher's Summary

Do you have back, neck, or shoulder pain that keeps recurring or won't go away? Do you have to "baby" your back? Does back pain keep you from living a full life? If so, you may be suffering from TMS - (Tension Myositis Syndrome) - and you don't have to take it anymore!

Dr. John E. Sarno, author of the revolutionary book Mind Over Back Pain, is a medical pioneer whose program has helped patients overcome their back conditions- without drugs or dangerous surgery. Now, using his latest research into TMS, Dr. Sarno goes one step further. After identifying stress and other psychological factors in back pain, he demonstrates how many of his patients have then gone on to heal themselves without exercise or other physical therapy.

Discover why self-motivated and successful people are prone to TMS, how anxiety and repressed anger trigger muscle spasms, how people "train themselves" to experience back pain, and how you may get relief from back pain within two to six weeks by recognizing TMS and its causes.

    "A very thought provoking book."

I always suspected a connection between mind and body. This book provides a frame work to better understand how it works. I found many of the example I could relate to and it greatly enhanced my understanding of how it works and how the connection manifests in pain. While I have just finished listening to the book and not been able to put in practice his theory it has certainly motivated me to put aside my fears and motivated me to action.

    "Eye opening"

What a concept.. so glad I found this. Applies to so many people I know.

I've suffered from chronic muscle tension for years. I am a total Type A personality.

It's good to think outside of the box. As a medical professional I'm quite familiar with cookie cutter diagnoses and the over use of surgery.

    "Changed my life!"

A book that has literally and physically changed my life. I experienced episodes of back pain, neck pain, and foot pain for the last 20 yrs. painful episodes that would sometimes not allow me to leave the house and limited my life.
All this changed after reading this book! I continue to check in daily and do the recommended mental exercises. I am free of back pain, neck pain, and foot pain. I have had a few episodes that have poked there ugly head out, I immediately get back on track with the mental work and it goes away within 24 hours. If you experience s s back pain at all this is a Must Read!

    "Life changing"

I've had recurring back pain for years. When I stumbled across this book, I'd been in pain for 6 days after from suffering a supposed back sprain. Listened to this on Monday night, woke up pain free on Tuesday morning. If you're open minded and prepared to un-learn everything you thought you knew about back pain, this book will change your life in the best possible way.

    "Excellent Book on Pain Management"

Great confirmation of what many of us instinctually know on a spiritual level. Especially when we are living with a loved one who is in constant pain that no medical treatment or surgical procedure can alleviate.
Many thanks to John Sarno for sharing his knowledge, experience and insights about the root cause of pain that cannot be cured by current medical science.

"Not for confirmed back pain issues"

If you have gone to a back specialist. And you have a reason for your pain that is documented than this book is not for you. This book is for people that have mental issues that have not been dealt with and suppress then manifest as physical pain. If you are in this category, suppress phycological issues, then this book is for you.

"It works! it seems crazy but it really does work."

I have to admit I was a skeptic but after suffering for years with chronic back and neck pain I came back to this book time and time again and it really does help. sometimes I have to go back through the process to remind myself of what is causing the pain and actually take time to go through the proper steps to get out of the pain cycle.

I buy into the hypothesis and where do I go from here? I'd like to learn more but was left with nowhere to go.

    "unbelievably, undeniable "

I was very skeptical when I started listening to this book. I always start reading the negative feedbacks and of course in denial, however I decided to listen to it anyways. In the first 2 chapters I have found someone describing my personality, I kept listening. I have multiple x rays and stuff telling my physical abnormalities, still kept listening. Towards the end of the book I was not 100% into it but almost 90. I might have cured myself though. Still in doubt of course that my problem can't be physical but undeniably I feel pretty good at the moment. I would recommend this book to anyone.

    "enlightening"

As a nurse I can get emeshed in the medical model of pain treatment but after spending a number of years in mental health l have seen many somatic complaints caused by suppression of emotions. Dr Sarno explains the process so well.I will be recommending this book.
