Publisher's Summary

Do you have back, neck, or shoulder pain that keeps recurring or won't go away? Do you have to "baby" your back? Does back pain keep you from living a full life? If so, you may be suffering from TMS - (Tension Myositis Syndrome) - and you don't have to take it anymore!

Dr. John E. Sarno, author of the revolutionary book Mind Over Back Pain, is a medical pioneer whose program has helped patients overcome their back conditions- without drugs or dangerous surgery. Now, using his latest research into TMS, Dr. Sarno goes one step further. After identifying stress and other psychological factors in back pain, he demonstrates how many of his patients have then gone on to heal themselves without exercise or other physical therapy.

Discover why self-motivated and successful people are prone to TMS, how anxiety and repressed anger trigger muscle spasms, how people "train themselves" to experience back pain, and how you may get relief from back pain within two to six weeks by recognizing TMS and its causes.

"It works! it seems crazy but it really does work."

I have to admit I was a skeptic but after suffering for years with chronic back and neck pain I came back to this book time and time again and it really does help. sometimes I have to go back through the process to remind myself of what is causing the pain and actually take time to go through the proper steps to get out of the pain cycle.

I buy into the hypothesis and where do I go from here? I'd like to learn more but was left with nowhere to go.

    "unbelievably, undeniable "

I was very skeptical when I started listening to this book. I always start reading the negative feedbacks and of course in denial, however I decided to listen to it anyways. In the first 2 chapters I have found someone describing my personality, I kept listening. I have multiple x rays and stuff telling my physical abnormalities, still kept listening. Towards the end of the book I was not 100% into it but almost 90. I might have cured myself though. Still in doubt of course that my problem can't be physical but undeniably I feel pretty good at the moment. I would recommend this book to anyone.

    "enlightening"

As a nurse I can get emeshed in the medical model of pain treatment but after spending a number of years in mental health l have seen many somatic complaints caused by suppression of emotions. Dr Sarno explains the process so well.I will be recommending this book.

"Enlightening and important, but missing actionable next steps"

I found this book enlightening in that it provides informative insight into the possible causes for pain and illness. I think this is a book that everyone should read and that's it's very important to study this subject further.

The one thing I found missing from this book are actionable next steps. I found myself wanting to know what to do next, how to find out if I have conditions caused by TMS?

    "Interesting"

This book suggests an interesting tie between suppressed anger and physical manifestations of pain. It suggests that the pain is the body's attempt to distract one from suppressed anger. While I am convinced of a connection between the two, I think this approach might be overly simplistic. I think the author is at times too dismissive of other points of view and treatments.

    "Yesssssss! I'm pain free now."

I can immediately see the push back to be expected from this material. The mind brain body connection theory is not new but to hear a western trained Dr put the connection together honoring what was once a held belief that ALL back injury is of the body, and gently and slowly introduce an alternative option, has yielded amazing and fast results. I am a believer. Only because I put it to practice and felt relief with NO additional physical therapy. After 1 year of consistent pain and numbing I can say that after 1 week I am pain free and the numbing has been significantly reduced. I will continue the practice. Thank you Dr Sarno. For the courage and the commitment to share this info.

    "Nailed it!"

This book nails it. Not just about back pain, which I don't even really have, but more about the body's ability to manifest physical problems to distract from emotional ones. I was a little weary of this because it sounds very "woo woo" self healing, but it's important to realize that the medical reality is that many people are on disability with absolutely nothing wrong with them. If you go to a doctor with pain, they are going to find something I.e. Slipped disk, bulging disk. Everybody has these. Why isn't everyone debilitated? Read this or get the audiobook. You won't be sorry.

    "Exceptional"

The most effective book I've ever read. It's a journey into what's what. Medical science rarely incorporates the physiological aspects of cures and healing.
I highly recommend this book if you have any type of chronic or reoccurring pain.
