Myka, who'd been raised by an abusive stepfather, is not sure that a wild fighter named Spike is the best man to bring up the cute little jaguar cub. She goes to Shiftertown to check out Spike, and finds that the man behind the name is a lonely shifter who's lost most of his family and is a fierce caretaker to those he has left.

Spike is torn between the cub and his duties as tracker to the Shiftertown leader and begs Myka, the only person who understands, to help him. He starts to like the sassy Myka, a horse trainer who's not afraid of working with animals, even if they're wildcats who turn into humans.

When Spike's job puts his cub and Myka in danger, Spike is forced to choose between those to whom he's pledged his loyalty and his need to protect the woman and cub he's come to love.

Great story!

This was the first story that I read in the Shifters Unbound series. A few years ago, I bought an anthology set and Spike's story was part of it. As soon as I finished reading it, I immediately went and looked up the author, pleasantly surprised to find there were more books in the series. I bought all the books that were available which I think, at the time, was only 4 or 5 including spike's story. I sat down and read them one after the other until I was done. Then I began the waiting game, waiting for the author to release the next story.
It is easy to say Shifters Unbound is one of my absolute favorite series, ever. It's one of those series where, when a book comes out, everything else gets pushed to the side so I can read the newest release. Jennifer Ashley has created a world within a world that is original, exciting, intriguing and so much more.
I was so excited when I joined the Audible escape program and found that so many of the book in this series were part of the program (Update: Not part of the program anymore). I, of course, immediately downloaded them all and now I'm going with the shifters on their journeys once again. Spike and Myka are a beautiful couple, each deserving their HEA. I'm really happy to see them get theirs and can't wait to see more (On a side note; I'm interested to see if anything ever comes of the comment Sean made when Jordan first met Katriona.)
I've read this series many times and I know it will be read many more times in the future. Well done to the author for an amazing story and to the narrator who helped give the story one more level of life.
Off to listen to the next book.
