The Book of Hosea is certainly emotional and relational. In the message of Hosea, we see the passion, jealousy, commitment, heartbreak, judgment, and love of God. People often talk about what they feel about God. Hosea tells us what God thinks about Israel, sin, and us.
"Go and marry a prostitute." These are the first words God spoke to his prophet Hosea. Why would God ask one of His prophets to go to such extremes? As an adulterous woman, Gomer repeatedly spurns the love of her youth, while her betrayed husband, Hosea, offers forgiveness and seeks to win her back. With this bold and uncomfortable imagery, Hosea tells the story of God and his people.
How does this speak to us and the culture in which we live?
This verse-by-verse commentary makes Hosea's message applicable today to all who struggle with questions of the gospel and cultural changes and idolatry and sin in the church. Charles carefully and Biblically takes us through the unfolding story of Hosea and his wife, Gomer, while explaining the basic message in vivid detail.
Hosea's prophecy is a book of hope for us today as Charles shows that Yahweh God can be trusted to win back the love of his people despite a less than promising outlook. God’s compassion for Israel is seen as He welcomes Israel like a husband who lovingly takes back an unfaithful wife.
