Publisher's summary

Aliens have invaded Earth, and Eve is pretty sure it's her fault....

The alien queen holds a grudge against Eve and her teammates. To avoid having their throats slit while they sleep, they escape the palace and set out to stop the real cause of the war, which is also slowly killing half her teammates - the incurable alien plague that NIX unknowingly weaponized. To save the people she cares about (and everyone else who happens to live on either world), Eve will have to fulfill an ancient prophecy.

They only have to escape back to Earth, avoid being caught by the queen's agents or killed in the planet-wide war, and find a greater god that has been missing for millennia. No problem, right?

Gods of Myth and Midnight is the third book in a dark and deliciously violent adventure series that combines science fiction and game elements. If you like electrifying action, flawed characters, and kick-ass heroines, then you'll love the third book in Azalea Ellis' Seeds of Chaos series.

pretty good, but kinda getting over it

the story is good, the characters are believable, narrator is fantastic. that said I'm kind of getting over the absolute dire scramble from hopless situation to hopeless situation. "everyone dies if they attempt ____" is getting way over used. there's barely a moment in the last 2 books where it's not incredibly dire circumstances. I think the phrase to describe this is peril fatigue

Amazing and looking forward for the next

Super great development for everyone that had a well done plan to face the forces in front of them, with extremely well done fights. it has epic moments that I really thought were tense. it did have some moments that meander in her own thoughts a bit much but overall amazing.

Very good.

I had a hard time with book 1. I wanted to like it and even listened to the first chapter of book 1 again after I finished book 2. It was still irritating to listen to. Book 2 was definitely an improvement, so if you made it through, keep pushing. Book 3 was very good. I was surprised not to see the queen's older son again in this book, but the story moved along nicely without him. The plot develops nicely. Sometimes Eve is sooooo cheesy with her monologues, but the inward grimaces after she says something melodramatic lends her character a realistic texture. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Story scales up a lot but remains interesting

As a simple disclaimer: "This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."

Quite an interesting read with lots of world building and a small mix of political diversity in many ways. The book could probably have been divided into 2 books but thankfully kept in one. The characters remain interesting and flexible and the trials they face scale continuously. Also, death can happen (I find many books skirt it completely)

Spoilers below:

I found that Eve's ascension was well written in and followed a path of self learning. This was nicely done. The world(s) and planes scaled to a larger scope than I would have thought and the war of the worlds was a good and decisive moment.

I love that it doesn't just end with a cure and done. Like some of my favorite videogame RPGs (Dragon Quest Series and some FF) the first ending only precedes a larger drop into darkness with a larger enemy to fight. The fight against Pestilence, planning and duplicity in the plans make for an entertaining build up and finish to the book.

Some moments seem a bit stretched and convenient, but that I expect in most stories. But they remain forgivable in the larger scale since there was a larger scale to consider.

Losing a few of the supporting characters was a bit of a surprise but a good one. I hate overly clean stories as the world is not that way. Well done and well balanced.

Still a solid story

The third book of the series is certainly different from the others, a bit slower in my opinion than the first two with a bit more character advancement and a different kind of character strife. Still a solid story with good narration and certainly a fun ride from start to end. I will say out of the three books this one has been my least favorite. A bit too drama at parts, but I think it'll be some people's favorite of the three for that very reason.

Without going into spoilers, it's got a few nice twists that fans of the series will like I think. If you read the first two, you have to do this one as well, for sure.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

spectacular

a wonderful addition to the series. pacing of the story was perfect. the prose spot on. character growth lagged a tad in the previous book but was quickly rectified in this book. wonderful build up of rising action culminated into climax well executed. love the new lore added. grittier than the previous books and darker in its theme. all around lovely.i cannot wait for more and highly anticipate the next one coming to audio.
the narrator performed great as with the previous books. good tone, good pacing, good inflection, all making up for the small vocal range. I cannot think of anyone who would bring this story to life better than her.

Very good! Dark but so good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As with the first two books, this is an intense story. It is balanced fairly well with lighter moments. It wasn't quite as well balanced as the first two, but still not overwhelmingly dark. That said, there is a lot happening in this installment of the series and you really don't want to read/listen to them out of order or you will miss a LOT. The narrator continues to do a great job bringing this story to life. All in all, this is a fantastic series and one I hope is able to continue for a long time. I hope book 4 is released very soon!

meh at best.

this book was really boring I had a really though time getting thru it and just hit the point where I say enough. the 2 earlier books was good but this has been a real slog. I haven't been this bored in a long time. I got to the 19 hour mark because I read a spoiler about the MCs power and I really feel let down. the series had a good start then it has gone down hill from there. not continuing this series unfortunately.
