Publisher's summary

Is it possible to be both a Catholic and a feminist? Claire Swinarski, writer and creator of The Catholic Feminist podcast, believes it is: "I'm a feminist for the same reason I'm bold and honest and sometimes ragey: because Jesus was all of those things."

In Girl, Arise!, Swinarski reconciles the two identities by demonstrating the strength and abilities women have to share with the Body of Christ, the importance of women throughout the history of the faith, and how the love you experience through Christ and the Church can change you and the world around you.

Swinarski points out that while both "feminism" and "Catholicism" can mean different things to different people, both feminists and Catholics desire to make the world a better, fairer place. And she shows that by treating women with dignity equal to that of men - by calling them his friends and teaching them - Jesus acted as a feminist as well.

Swinarski also tells the stories of holy women - including Vashti in the book of Esther, Sts. Therese of Lisieux and Joan of Arc, Mary Magdalene, and the Blessed Virgin Mary - to show how their faith influenced their actions, even when those actions went against traditional norms and roles of women.

Proclamation of Truth

Swinarski states the truth all Catholics, all feminists, and all women need to hear today in a passionate and interesting way filled with her personality. She called me to action in ways I was ready for and ways I wasn’t but know I need to be.

Excellent presentation of authentic feminine faith

Excellent presentation of authentic feminine faith. Claire did a wonderful job writing and narrating the book.It combines both an honest expression of living as a 21st century Catholic woman along with a heartfelt search for truth. Highly recommend to any woman and any man who wants to just a small insight into a Catholic woman's reality.

This book is amazing!!!

Talk about a jump start to the heart. This book resets your roots in the faith like others have just not been able to for me. From her podcast and now to this book, Claire has been a voice of such profound truth to me in a harsh secular world of hate and negativity. I’ve never quite felt like I belonged as a feminist in the secular liberal world or the conservative catholic world and she’s been able to speak directly into my heart and light it on fire to seek Jesus. I am so thankful that she has had the courage to speak up. In a “cancel” culture that is so quick to judge and put you in a box - Claire refuses to be shut in. I can relate. We desperately need more of this!

Incredible

Claire perfectly sums up how the words “Catholic” and “Feminist” can and SHOULD go together.

Love!

Claire tackles this issue of crossing faith and feminism with such authenticity and grace! She is so relatable and brought me relief to know I’m not the only one out there striving for holiness and feeling like I miss the mark more often than I’d like to admit. Thanks Claire for making me feel represented as a strong woman with a strong faith!!

Don’t let the title of “Catholic feminist” scare you

This is such an amazing book written for my faith life. She talks in a personable manner, not stuffy like some theologians. I feel like I have my “place” in the Catholic community after listening to it.
