Publisher's summary

In the Outer Islands, gods and magic rule the ocean.

Under the command of Captain Rafe Morrow, the crew of the Celestial Jewel ferry souls to the After World and defend the seas from monsters. Rafe has dedicated his life to protecting the lost, but the tides have shifted and times have changed.

His sister, the Goddess of the Moon, is on a rampage and her creatures are terrorizing the islands. The survival of the living and dead hinge on the courage and cunning of a beleaguered captain and his motley crew of men and ghosts.

What he doesn't know is that her threat is part of a larger game. That an ancient, black-winged malevolence is using them all as pawns....

Come set sail with ghosts, gods, and sea monsters.

Hmmm

I had a really hard time getting into the story for this book. I actually listened to it multiple times hoping it would click together, but it never did. I didn’t dislike the story, but it isn’t one that kept my interest. I will say that I enjoyed the ending. The narrator did an good job, but I do wonder if it had been a different voice if maybe my interest would have been different, who knows...

Pretty darn good I believe.

Loved the story with all the twists and turns it had. From the God's, to the lowly Mortals, we all have our problems. Go back in time to where it all was real, or not. You decide. Me, myself, and I, all enjoyed the Audiobook, the Narration, and especially the story itself.

Different "gods" at war

This started slow for me but within the first hour it took off and never stopped. The god of souls and the moon goddess are siblings in a dysfunctional family of gods. Our goddess has gone insane and it's all our protagonist can do bring her under control. Plenty of good character development and a story line that's satisfying to the end.

Gods and Monsters

Rafe the soul god helps those dead to crossover or stay on his ship with his crew. His sister the moon goddess is crazy and mad at Rafe because he did not help her human love to stay with her. This book is about the interaction between the souls and the monsters that the moon goddess uses to punish her brother. It too a little time to get the gist of this story, but in the end is was a nice book. I was given a free copy of this audio book at my request and this is my honest review.

Action at sea with gods, ghosts, and monsters

"Ghosts of the Sea Moon," by A. F. Stewart is a fine seafaring fantasy, well written, with believable characters, that moves along at a good pace from action to action, weaving in background to explain and support characters motives, actions, and attitudes to give the reader an eventual understanding of why things are as they are. However, we are fed this information at a rate to keep us interested while beckoning us on with mystery. I began to become suspicious that all was not as it seemed to be in chapter two, and my suspicions were soon born out. The author continued to intrigue and surprise me with twists and turns of the plot. I don't want to give anything away, so let me just say that the author has developed an interesting pantheon of gods, who turn out to be just as human as we are, if not more so. Overall an interesting, intriguing, delightful story, well read by the narrator, Alyson Grauer, who gave each character a distinct identity and set appropriate moods with her vocalizations.

Adventure on the Ghostly Seas

I'm not usually one for high seas fantasy adventure, but this book may just change my mind about that. The world building and lore, combined with the excellent descriptions and narrative make for a tale that I didn't want to stop listening to. Good thing the narrator is so talented! She brought the characters to life in ways that I wasn't expecting. The story did slow down a few times, but never to the point where it was bogged down or boring. It stayed fun and intriguing right down to the last few sentences. I'm looking forward to more stories in this world and from this author!

Great book for a listen!

Good story, was a little round-house talk for a bit, but good all-around.

Awesome 💛

Brilliant vivid story telling, wonderfully lyrical wording. So clearly described I could almost taste the salty air. Having a female narrator for a mostly male cast was unusual and she was surprising awesome.
I highly recommend this book.
