Publisher's summary

With delectable characters and non-stop thrills that have made Janet Evanovich a household name, Wicked Appetite will leave you hungry for more.

Life in Marblehead has had a pleasant predictability, until Diesel arrives. Rumor has it that a collection of priceless ancient relics representing the Seven Deadly Sins have made their way to Boston's North Shore. Partnered with pastry chef Lizzie Tucker, Diesel bullies and charms his way through historic Salem to track them down - and his criminal mastermind cousin Gerewulf Grimorie.

The black-haired, black-hearted Wulf is on the hunt for the relic representing gluttony. Caught in a race against time, Diesel and Lizzie soon find out that more isn't always better, as they battle Wulf and the first of the deadly sins.

Not what I expected

Should have used a different reader for sure! I kept thinking I was listening to the Stephanie Plum series because of the wording/phrases used with the same reader and voices. Also the title was a bit misleading. But overall it was alright.

Quirky Characters

Loved the quirkiness to the characters. Interesting plot. Love Lorelei King. Maybe it's because of her narration, but I'm reminded of Charlie Davidson by the characters' banter.

Not great

Any additional comments?

To begin with, the story basis just seems kind of lazy, as though the author one day just decided she should do one of those southern paranormal romance things the kids are buying nowadays and threw it together. Second, something about it just kind of bored me. Other than the uninspired subject matter, I think what bored me might have been the pace of it and the annoying male protagonist, "Diesel", who it seems was supposed to be a charming scamp. He was just kind of an arrogant horse's a**. This story lacks a lot of the substance of the Plum novels, and those novels were not something one could call "literary", so that's saying a lot. Just kind of a limp book here. Seems like more of a commercial move on Janet's part than a labor of love.

Fun book, but the narration could be better

I have listened to many of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels with Lorelei King narrating, and I couldn’t be more disappointed with this one. Ms. King is so good with most of the character’s voices in the other novels, but she falls mostly flat with this book. She’s good with Diesel and Wolf. Nicki’s pronunciations are not natural-sounding, and she’s the narrator. The “somethin’” and other dropped g words just don’t sound natural and they are very inconsistent.
The story is good, though, pretty funny and a good little mystery.

Lizzy and Diesel great together

What made the experience of listening to Wicked Appetite the most enjoyable?

I like listening to books because I am able to do other things while I am listening. I also like that it is easy to listen on my phone or computer.

What did you like best about this story?

Lizzy and Diesel are fun characters. I love the way Ms. Evanovich has created all these quirky characters in this book that somehow ad humor, romance, adventure to Lizzy's and Diesel's quest to find a magical stone. I also love that Lizzy and Diesel have this unusual relationship that is growing close but they can't get to close. I look forward to ready the next book in the series.

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

I think Lorelei King is the best I've heard. She brings Lizzy and Diesel to life with her voice changes and inflections. I like all the books she has narrated for Janet Evanovich. I heard a couple other narrators who read some of the Stephanie Plum books that where awful.

Pure Fun

What made the experience of listening to Wicked Appetite the most enjoyable?

I've been reading and listening to darker, more serious, and perhaps more depressing material. I was looking for something to take me out of the mental swamp-- this hit the spot perfectly. The characters are hilarious; the plot doesn't let you down; and you don't need the concentration of brain surgeon to follow the story if you get interrupted.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wicked Appetite?

Any time that the author introduces a new character, it's delightful, and paints a clear, but not tedious, image.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

She's perfect and flexible. Her voice is soothing, yet never monotone.

If you could take any character from Wicked Appetite out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Claire. Her sarcasm is spot on.

okay

The story wasn't very captivating. kind of unbelievable and plain and boring. I don't know I guess I'm not into this kind of fake fantasy thing. maybe that's my problem. I might try one more book in the series. The narrator did a pretty great job though

Not my normal but worth the sale price!

Not my taste, it was different, kind of fun. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price but glad I added it to my library just for something different. It was well written and well performed.
