Publisher's summary

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence - creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

surprisingly incredible

it seems like the books that are the hot books never live up to the hype but honestly Where'd you go Bernadette does. I have to admit I am a sucker for corky characters and this book delivers! a wonderful story about dealing with changes and life. the character development is award winning. listen or read this book, you will not be disappointed!

Fun characters and story. Title character is quirky and funny... love her. Unfortunately very weak ending.

Great narration!

Kathleen Wilhoite does an amazing job with so many voices! The first half of the story was funny and you really got to know the players. The end seemed a little rushed for me. I typically don't want to see a movie after I read a book, but I liked the mom and can't wait to see how she transfers to the big screen.

Wow!

Wow! What a ride. Like a roller coaster. It took me a long time to make it up the hill, but when I crested the top, I enjoyed the ride down. I slogged through the first part of the book, but was rewarded in the end. It was nice to read such a unique story. Narration is definitely different, but also became part of the craziness, and ultimately, the charm of the characters and story.

not sure how to describe

First off - I enjoyed this book. Second - it's "chick lit" which I don't usually do much of. I'm not saying that women should stop writing books geared to a female audience; they should keep writing them. This book is funny, often in the oddest places. There are serious issues embedded in here amongst the humor. A lot of the satire in here is spot on.

I saw a review (I don't read many reviews, just look at the ratings) that said it was hard to follow in audio because a lot was of it was emails, letters, reports, etc. I had no issue, but it might be better in print or electronic for some people. The narrator is great and made it easier.

I finished this in just a few days because I had to see how things played out. I like enough of the characters to care what happens.

This was the last book of my Summer Listening Around the World.
