Publisher's summary

The author of five blockbuster novels, Emily Giffin delivers an unforgettable story of two women, the families that make them who they are, and the longing, loyalty, and love that binds them together.

Marian Caldwell is a 36-year-old television producer, living her dream in New York City. With a fulfilling career and satisfying relationship, she has convinced everyone, including herself, that her life is just as she wants it to be. But one night, Marian answers a knock on the door ... only to find Kirby Rose, an 18-year-old girl with a key to a past that Marian thought she had sealed off forever. From the moment Kirby appears on her doorstep, Marian’s perfectly constructed world - and her very identity - will be shaken to its core, resurrecting ghosts and memories of a passionate young love affair that threaten everything that has come to define her.

For the precocious and determined Kirby, the encounter will spur a process of discovery that ushers her across the threshold of adulthood, forcing her to re-evaluate her family and future in a wise and bittersweet light. As the two women embark on a journey to find the one thing missing in their lives, each will come to recognize that where we belong is often where we least expect to find ourselves - a place that we may have willed ourselves to forget, but that the heart remembers forever.

Thought provoking, enjoyable story!

What did you love best about Where We Belong?

I loved the premise of a birth daughter showing up on her biological mother's doorstep 18 years later and the many dichotomies for a woman who has chosen career over family despite a long-held secret of giving up her daughter for adoption so many years ago.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The daughter is brilliant -- almost to a fault. Hard to believe an 18-year old could be so poised and mature (even more so than the adults, it seems) throughout such a life changing event.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the daughter plays music with her birth dad at his club.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wouldn't go that far, but it was compelling to think about mistakes and the decisions we make in their wake that have lifelong consequences.

Read it!!

I absolutely loved the narrator. I found her to be funny and she did a good job changing voices for each character.

The story was interesting to me. I'm still thinking about the main character!! The story left me with some questions for my own life which is always good to reflect.

I admit it wasn't my favorite book. I guess because the ending didn't please me as much as the other books. Overall i still enjoyed this one.

Loved the story. Maybe a little predictable but I sometimes like that. Good read if you don’t want to have to wonder where it’s going.

Lovely Book

What made the experience of listening to Where We Belong the most enjoyable?

Very enjoyable book touching on many emotional topics that managed to put a lump in my throat more than once. It was a feel good story and although I found parts predictable, it was still just the kind of story I was in the mood for hearing. I loved the narrator's voice and she did a tremendous job with the various roles.
