Publisher's summary

The author of five blockbuster novels, Emily Giffin delivers an unforgettable story of two women, the families that make them who they are, and the longing, loyalty, and love that binds them together.

Marian Caldwell is a 36-year-old television producer, living her dream in New York City. With a fulfilling career and satisfying relationship, she has convinced everyone, including herself, that her life is just as she wants it to be. But one night, Marian answers a knock on the door ... only to find Kirby Rose, an 18-year-old girl with a key to a past that Marian thought she had sealed off forever. From the moment Kirby appears on her doorstep, Marian’s perfectly constructed world - and her very identity - will be shaken to its core, resurrecting ghosts and memories of a passionate young love affair that threaten everything that has come to define her.

For the precocious and determined Kirby, the encounter will spur a process of discovery that ushers her across the threshold of adulthood, forcing her to re-evaluate her family and future in a wise and bittersweet light. As the two women embark on a journey to find the one thing missing in their lives, each will come to recognize that where we belong is often where we least expect to find ourselves - a place that we may have willed ourselves to forget, but that the heart remembers forever.

Loved this book! !

Would you consider the audio edition of Where We Belong to be better than the print version?

I travel and have found audio versions to be the perfect choice for me

Have you listened to any of Orlagh Cassidy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time for her
but really enjoyed

If you could take any character from Where We Belong out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Probably Kirby's father...he sounds like such the good guy

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for next book.....

Sweet

Would you listen to Where We Belong again? Why?

Sweet simple story. I enjoyed it but the story is not complex enough for me to listen again.

Which scene was your favorite?

Kirby and her dad playing music together.

Who was the most memorable character of Where We Belong and why?

Conrad, Kirby's birth father. At 18 he was so mature and sensitive. He has more layers than Marian. I would have like to know more of the story behind him becoming such a strong person.

You can never go wrong with Emily giffin

What made the experience of listening to Where We Belong the most enjoyable?

Orlagh Cassidy did a phenomenal job of narrating this story and making the characters come to life. Because I am an adopted child this story really spoke to me. From the very first chapter you become engrossed in the story and are eager to find out how it will end. Like all of Emily giffin books, you will finish the story and looking forward to the next masterpiece. If you have enjoyed her other books, you will love this one just as much!

Worst Ending

Lost a star for the worst ending....... Seriously? Conrad and Marian didn't even kiss or sleep together nor did we get any real closure with Marian and Peter. You've got to be kidding me. Up until the ending, I thought it was the best book I've read this year or maybe in the last 2 years.

Enjoyable Read

What about Orlagh Cassidy’s performance did you like?

Orlagh portayed the many different characters well.

Who was the most memorable character of Where We Belong and why?

I enjoyed the character of Marian. I could see how her story in the novel could be relatable to other women.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the switch between the two main characters every other chapter. It provided two different voices

Enjoyable

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. At first, it seems like Marian is totally shallow, but we get to watch her evolve into something deeper and more complex as the story unfolds. In the end, I was really rooting for her, and she didn't let me down.

I thought the writer handled the complexity of adoption nicely, although I have no personal experience with the subject. I found it to be insightful.

It was just okay

I have been a fan of hers, Emily Giffin. This book was a bit different. I liked the two different perspectives between the kid and the mom. I will say that the ending just left me for more, maybe another book? Hmmmm
