Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)
I now have my husband just as hooked on the saga of Jamie and Claire as I am (except I actually went out and bought the printed books to read because Audible only has the 1st three unabridged books). DO NOT try and make do with the abridged versions because they are awful. If you must wait-they will be worth it. The first 3 are for download here (about 40 hours each). They are long but you are still wanting more. My husband and I listen to a little bit every time we get in the car together (I've already listened to them all).
Davina Porter brings them all to life-you can tell who is talking without the "he said-she said" at the end of the sentances.
This is my favorite book out of this series. You have to read Outlander to understand what is going on but trust me its well worth it. The characters become like friends and you find yourself caring about them and there story while learning a great deal about Scottish history. Outstanding book.
I just finished listening to Voyager and was crushed to think my adventures with Jamie and Claire were over. To my pleasant surprise I found that there are three more books. To my consternation, they are abridged and narrated by someone other than Davina Porter. She is Jamie and Claire. In Ms. Porter's profile she won an award for her narration of "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" so I know it is out there. I hope the other two books are also out there, unabridged and narrated by Davina Porter.
On another note, I just recommended the Outlander series to my mom. This is definitely one of the best series I've come across in a long time. The pairing of Diana Gabaldon's writing and Davina Porter's narration is perfect. All the characters come to life. I found myself laughing out loud at some scenes and smiling wistfully at others. Do yourself a favor and listen to this book and the two that precede it.
I'm not sure who I love more - Diana Gabaldon or Davina Porter.
They are perfectly suited for one another and the product of their collaboration is a treasure.
Voyager was not as enjoyable as Outlander, but I still enjoyed it immensely.
Again I really loved this book You just have to keep going to find out what happens. Some parts seemed to go on and you wanted to know quicker what happen to people and things like the pictures of Brianna, but as you find out it is worth the wait. I would tell anyone who whats to get in to a good story to get all these books. I hope that the next two will be coming out unabridged and they have the same person reading them. (she is Clare) to me anywhy. I am on the next book don't know what I will do when I am done.
Diana Gabaldon is simply the best author there is. Her books are emotionally charged and have you wanting more and more. I was thrilled that Audible got the unabridged versions of Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager. Do not EVER get the abridged versions. There is simply too much left out. I can't wait for the unabridged versions of Drums of Autumn, Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Give these books a try, you wont be sorry.
I LOVE these books! Davina Porter is AMAZING and brings all the characters to life in this series. I listen to them about once a year and cannot wait to have them ALL on my ipod (right now they are on tapes...ugh!) You will not be disappointed (as long as you get the UNABRIDGED version..you won't want to miss a minute of this story!)
Hurry up Audible...I already need the next one!
Davina Porter is again fabulous and flawless in her reading of this book. The story itself is, however, painful for me and is my least favorite in the series. The main character falls from grace and in my opinion never recovers fully to his previous stature as a truly admirable character. I also felt that some of the plot points were contrived and several main characters were behaving in ways that were distinctly inconsistent with the characters the author had so faithfully and deeply developed in earlier books. Still, one has to endure this volume in order to get to the next one -- Drums of Autumn. And ultimately, it's worth it.
The obsession Diana Gabaldon can create for those who read or listen to her books is insane. I mean I can barely stand not being able to listen or read her books about Jamie and Claire and after Dragonfly it was like torture awaiting that point where everything is righted for us loving fans.
I've already looked. The next book isn't on the site in it's unabridge form. I recommend starting over with Outlander and continuing all the way back to this title.
You won't be disappointed by this series... I assure you!
can I just say that this has been my favorite of the books so far, I could not put this down in the car doing laundry around the house, I was lost in this book, It is long but worth it my husband started it because of me and he got hooked he took it on a bisness trip and said it helps the time on the planes go quicker, I hope that you enjoy you will love the ending!!!! Have a good read
This made me laugh out loud, cry and I can't wait to see what happens next
there was a noticeable change in the author.''s writing style
the greater emphasis on the sexual behaviour of the key subjects seems out of character.
it would seem that the author had.been illadvised on plot construction and it really shows, perhaps my European tastes are different to those of the publishers.
I will t r y one more in the series and hope that my jaded tastes will recognise the author's initial style, else I will search for another author win talent to match.
"An entertaining yarn"
Easy to listen to with an engaging story. Excellent narrator that carries you through the story.
love transends time
The change in direction and building in new characters
This is as strong as all the others I've read so far.
I just could not put the book down , the touching romantic story that have a sense of humus , that one cannot wait for the next kiss from Jamie for Claire .
"loved every minute."
well written grabbing story and superbly read. page turner, unable to stop reading it
"Just as good, if not better!"
I am so hooked on this story, and so in love with the characters so brilliantly portrayed by Diane's voice. Next one loaded ready to go.
I loved this book, they just keep getting better and better. On to the next. :)
Excellent as always! Diane Gabaldon writes brilliantly and the narration is superb by Davina Porter.
"Well written & thoroughly enjoyed"
Davina narrated this equally as well as the others. The series so far has had me quickly looking for the title of the next , in order to continue to listen with intent . Davina reads with great feeling and perfectly introduces each of the characters within this incredibly breathtaking and sometimes very emotional text, which tells of well studied, historic adventures and love stories filled with excitement, sorrow and heroism
