Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's magnificent historical saga, begun with Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, continues with this New York Times best seller. Set in the intriguing Scotland of 200 years ago, the third installment in the romantic adventures of Jamie and Claire is as compelling as the first. Now that Claire knows Jamie survived the slaughter at Culloden, she is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. She aches to travel back through time again to find the love of her life, but, in order to do that, she must leave their daughter behind. It has been 20 years since she and Jamie were forced to separate. Can she risk everything, maybe even her life, on a gamble that their love has withstood the long, rigorous test of time?

Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

Critic reviews

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)

Can't get enough of this series!!

Glad to have more adventures of Jamie and Claire. Davina Porter is a dream to listen to. As soon as I hear her voice I am whisked back to the 18th century and fall in love with Diana Gabaldon's stories all over again.

One of the best books in the Series!

This is a continuation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. This is by far the best book after Outlander, in my opinion. It is so nice to reconnect with the characters and listen to their reconnection. The reading is poignant, you can almost feel the emotions of the characters. A must have for the DG collector!

Reader was not successful switching voices.

Jamie sounded like an old woman, other voices were not clearly different. I'll just stick with reading the books.

Just as Exciting as Outlander

This third book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is just as good as Outlander. As always, Jamie and Claire are involved in life threatening situations nearly daily. the difference is that they are 20 years older than at the beginning of the series. Their lives contain so many more responsibilities and entanglements that there is a new sense of urgency and importance in everything they do. There are some huge surprises as characters from prior books keep popping up! This one is hard to put down, so follow Jamie and Claire as they plunge forward through lif.

Definition of good reading

Characters that stay true to themselves, plot turns that take you by surprise, and and ending that makes you sad it’s over. I’m hooked.

Good story.

For the first time, it felt a bit long winded and contrived. I get destiny, but there were so many flags, I knew how it would end half way through... Still, I'll continue with the series.

A delightfully intriguing saga

This book was a great listen. The narrator did a wonderful job. The story was a delightfully intriguing saga. I can understand why the books have come to the TV screen. This book was DEFINITELY worth the credit used and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

Love this series!

I am re-visiting this series, which I read several years ago (and re-read again), it was fun to just listen this time! At first I had trouble with Davina Porter, she is a good narrator, but her voice was not the voice I imagined for Claire. It was hard to adjust to her, but I did and can't wait to hear her on the next one.
