Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)
This book drives me crazy. I am on board for the first 30% but then Jamie does two things in the story that I just can't seem to move beyond.
WTF did I just read? The last 10% of the book goes completely off the rails.
She is AMAZING. Her Scott, French, and Irish accents are superb.
I am enjoying the Audio versions to be fantastic in this series..I cant skim read, so I am even more enchanted..
Jamie, swoon... Claire... what a role model...
I love Davinas voices, she does it so well.. she is perfect for this story
I'm a country potter, gardener, flute player and tin tinker living with my husband, an electrical engineer & cabinet maker.
I'm sure that Davina Porter is a huge part of the reason why I so love this book. Porter's collection of voices are marvelous. How does she do it? Her Scottish ting is gorgeous. Her variety and suitability of voices for the characters is just so comfortable to listen to. I've heard this book before but want to listen again just to hear Davina Porter.
Diana Gabaldon is no small contributor. Her characters are fun and reasonable. Of course nobody can move across time but she well considers the issues that one might encounter in doing so with a logic, if logic is the word.
The series is well worth a visit and tour.
Say something about yourself!
Claire and Jamie have been through so many things. War, abuse, loss and they love each other with an enduring love. Their story, their encounters, their difficult journey, I simply cannot get enough of them. I think the narration by Davina Porter is excellent. I just finished this one and the 4th one already downloaded. I have hours in these books and I have been involved in their path. Diana Gabaldon makes the characters so alive. I am not able to put them down.
I would listen because I like the language and writing, and I may still do, but It is a long story and I already know it so it may be boring to listen to again
Yes the other books in this series, I really like the ways she performs the story, she puts in a great effort, is consistent and there is a lot of life in the performance
Jamie Frazer of course, who else
Claire and james
Fabulous. Male and female voices distinctive. One of the best audio voices
Diana Gabaldon has a way of weaving a story that will keep you one edge of your seat. They don't read like the same book over and over with small variances. I love this series. I also love Davina Porter! She is a wonderful narrator! I would listen to any story she told!!!
I just love these characters. This series go through everything you could imagine, from swords in Scotland to pirates in the Caribbean, including slaves, witchcraft and voodoo. Ending up shipwrecked (the description of the ocean storm is amazing) and finally America. I can't wait to see what the next book holds.
I'm a bookaholic , have loads of books just don't have time between work and family but I really try my absolute fave book is outlander
I find that listening to a large complicated book helps me to understand it better and pick up in nuances I've missed
I don't think you really can compare Voyager it's a book completely in it own genre
Davina is wonderful and totally believable as Claire, I love listening to her
definitely Claire I would love to pick her brain about ... Oh gosh .... Everything
I presently live in Central TX after spending 35 years in S FL. I was born and grew up in NW LA. I have been a reader my entire life.
I have been an avid, AVID reader since about 2nd grade, and my reading really blossomed when I found Audiobooks, because now I don't have to stop my activities to read with my eyes! This is even more important because I live some thirty miles from my workplace, The stories are not just wonderful; I would give them the much more descriptive title of "Magnificent." The character development is absolutely perfect, and that is no small task when there are as many figures as there are in these stories. Every one seems to have a valid back story, and I occasionally wonder if some character or other could be coaxed into telling their story; perhaps in the same form as the Lord John Novellas. All in all, every story is a masterpiece. The prospect of a narrator, which seemed so odd at the outset, is absolutely wonderful. Inasmuch as a movie has action and normal-seeming verbal interchange whereas with a written word it must be fleshed out by the mind of the reader; with a skilled narrator the story truly comes alive... and Miss Porter truly makes the characters live, accents and all. How she keeps all them straight is a mystery to me !!
Favorite characters vary with the story...but I have to give Claire credit for pure adventuresome spirit! When I think of everything she gives up, from zippers to air conditioning to synthetic fabrics and modern communications, it makes it even more of a love story, I'd love the adventure, but I'm not sure I could handle the terrible cold, and between the corsets, the requirement to always wear a headcovering of some sort, and long skirts with layers, and layers, and LAYERS of clothing. And..um...women had a particularly difficult time at some times. Truly makes one appreciate antibiotics and modern plumbing.
She absolutely BECOMES the story! I have enjoyed many audiobooks, but she is without peer when it comes to making a story live.
I was truly moved when I read the story of Diana Gabaldon and how she had never written anything of this sort previously, in fact had never written any books at all. She is brilliant, and the world would be a much poorer place without her cotnributions.
It can be very difficult to get someone who says, "I don't read history', or " don't read romance, " or, "I don't read anything with blood in it," to delve into these stories. If they will just give them the chance, the readers will be surprised at how much they will love them !
