Diana Gabaldon's powerful, witty, and heroic characters lend themselves well to the rich, melodic narration accorded them by Davina Porter. Under her spell, listeners find themselves transported back through time to exciting, faraway places alive with people they would enjoy knowing.

"Triumphant....Her use of historical detail and truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer." (Publishers Weekly)
As an avid reader of science fiction and history this superbly written novel combines it all to satisfy over and over again. With superb character development and carefully researched facts the story delights while the performance is impeccably done in accurate voices that reflect the characters of the novel. Davinia Porter is superb with all she reads.
This is the best novel I've read in many years with such evocative language that the reading is unforgettable. As a middle aged woman I identified with Claire Beauchamp but found all of the characters richly developed and fascinating.
Voyager is a wonderfully well written and masterful sequel in the continuing Outlander series! I highly recommend and encourage all who appreciate good work to travel through time and history with this series.
The level of detail was wonderful. Gabaldon weaves words like threads in tapestry,.
Claire, of course!
It was hard to stop
Looking forward to gabaldon 's next great epic
I'm a huge DG fan and I've read the Outlander series before. This is a pretty action-packed entry, but there are a few aspects (such as Mr. Willoughby) that just seem a bit shaky. I love the first half of the book immensely, but the frantic second half gets pretty exhausting after a while. But Davina Porter's narration is, as always, outstanding, and she really imbues the story's most emotional moments with suitable amounts of gravitas.
I am a single mother of two boys, Josef who is 8 and Gabriel who is 1. I am so busy I am unable to sit and read. So having audible is great!
I love the way Gabaldon has connected characters in the future with characters in the past. I think this is brilliant!
I love that we are back in the 18th century. This is my favorite part of the series; Jamie and Claire's adventures together.
I have only listened to Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, the first two books of the series. She is wonderful! Absolutely love her!
When Jamie realized it was time for him to leave his son. He fathered a son but could not let anyone know this. The boy grew more and more to look like him and he knew he had to leave, so they wouldn't find out the boys true father. It was sad and touching. He loved the boy, you could tell. But leaving him was the best thing for the boy. It was a difficult thing to do, you could feel how difficult it was for Jamie. I can't imagine going through something like this, Gabaldon gave me a glimpse of what it would feel like and how difficult it would be to do.
I love this series. Gabaldon is taking us all over the world and we are meeting so many amazingly different and exciting characters. I live for this series!
Davina Porter does a great job narrating, given it's not the easiest book to read. I did notice that her voice for Roger shifted from the last book, that was confusing. I still say her American accent needs a lot of work (for brianna).
Jamie and Claire finally meet after 20 years and... Wait, no suspense?? It was so anticlimactic!!
The story was all over the place, not as streamlined as the first two books. There were extra plots and characters that took away from the main story, too much side tracking for my taste. I didn't see the point.
Diana's writing itself is wonderful, her imagery is conveyed clearly and easily. She has a great attention to detail, but I'm starting to pick up little habits in her writing style, I catch it every time and that bothers me.
Unfortunately I'm now committed to the series so hopefully it will get better.
Good story in a series of good stories, (although I found some of the love scenes going on a bit and fast-forwarded here and there but thats probably just me ;o) )and I really did enjoy lisening to it in the car. Looking forward to the next in the series. Have to make special mention of the narration - I listen to a LOT of audio books and Davina Porter is exceptionally good, easy on the ear and really captures the characters.
"A roller-coaster ride"
Gosh you do get your money's worth out of Diana Gabaldon's books. Over 45 hours of listening - phew! This book is a roller-coaster ride - always something happening. Jamie and Clare don't know what boring is and neither does the reader/listener. Davina Porter does another wonderful job at narrating this story. This being book 3 of the Outlander series, I did find the sex scenes a bit tiresome and wish the author would just set the scene and stop at the bedroom door although often have a chuckle at picturing the narrator sat in a recording booth expressing all this passion. I listen while walking my dog around the local park and really look forward to this hour everyday. Looking forward to book 4. By the way, I am female although my name on the review says Mr.
"Diana Gabaldon in audiobook format"
What a boon to have these great books in audiobook format. I have read each of the books in the series and am loving them even more in this format. The book are the best and the narrator just adds to the pleasure.
I am currently listening to voyager and I can't wait to get into the car so that I can listen to some more.
These audiobooks are definetly worth buying. There are hours of enjoyment awaiting the 'reader'.
"One of the best"
Don't start this book unless you are prepared to want to read the whole series. It is wonderfully read and a real page-turner. Strong characters that you will love. Beware also when you get to book 5 because the one available at audible (as at Aug 09)is abridged and has a different narrator. A bitter disappointment.
"A wonderful immersion into the past..."
Addictive, facinating, enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the great detail that Diana Gabaldon writes in this fourth instalment of the Outlander series. I feel transported back to a time, of which though much is known about, I will never experience first hand. I enjoyed the different points of view of the main characters. Nothing disappoints in this story and I love the continuing tale Jamie and Claire's love and the development of Briana and Roger.
Davina Porter does a wonderful job with all aspects of the narration, from accents, to singing, to a variety of foreign languages and difficult pronunciations. I greatly appreciate the time and effort that goes into the creation of the performances and I never feel, at any point, in the 55+ hours of narration, that the performance is tired.
"Just as good, if not better!"
I am so hooked on this story, and so in love with the characters so brilliantly portrayed by Diane's voice. Next one loaded ready to go.
"Another mind blowing edition to the saga!"
I love Diana gabaldon!! I love Jamie, I love Claire and I love this story so much. That is all!
Very long winded, had some good adventure just wish the author would stop stalling and on with it! Honestly could have been 20 hours shorter!
this book was wonderful on to book 4 now for me .these book are addictive as is the TV series.it is easy to become invested in each of the characters.
"Fantastic can't wait for it to be aired on tv !"
