Portable Hitchcock

The stories are of a genre (laconic but good exposition and then Whamo) Perfect for those down times (on the train, the line at the supermarket) when a short story is just the ticket. My frustration was that when I had even less time than one short story -- I found it hard to find my place again. The stories are good but listening to the last page over so that one can find the next story is frustrating. I would't recomend listening to all in sequence -- they are too similar. Hey audible -- what would you think of selling a set of short stories one could download one story at a time ?

Great Read!

Would you listen to Twisted (Selected Unabridged Stories) again? Why?

Yes - it would be a great second listen as all the stories have twists that are unexpected.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It kept me on the edge of my seat because I was curious where the unexpected turn would occur.

What a fun and quick listen

Never read or heard a Deaver's book. THIS WAS FAST and FUN. Almost Hitchcock in a word. Highly recommend for the 1 hour at a time listener. After this, I will look for more short stories...

hooray for great plotting!

Listening to this book in my car made me wish for a traffic jam! Very engaging, well-written stories with some great twists. If plot is your thing I highly recommend it.

twisted is as twisted does!

Loved the collection of short stories, with a little twist! It is great for shorter drives my husband and I take. Have been a fan of Mr Deaver for years but never read any of the short stories. I'll be back for more!

Great stories

I really enjoyed all the short stories. They seemed to get right to the point and not drag out. Loved the plot twists. Not what you expected. Once again Jeffery Deaver a great book.

This is only about HALF of the actual book!

Firstly, I just want to say that this audiobook was worth my credit and I have no regrets. Deaver has become one of my top 3 favourite authors (the other two being Agatha Christie and Neil Gaiman, so take that as you will) and his short stories are some of my favourites to read again and again. Short and snacky and satisfying! I read this collection through my local library a few years ago but, when I went to borrow it again, my library had removed it from their rotation. Disaster! When I discovered it was available on Audible, I was thrilled and bought it immediately without looking at the details.
Which brings me to the ONLY bad thing I have to say about it...it does NOT contain the entire collection. That's my fault; it says in the title description that it's "selected" stories and I should've realized what that meant, but I didn't. This collection contains 8 stories out of the 16 - don't get me wrong, they're great stories and extremely well narrated, but it was a bit of a disappointment for me. The only other bump in my enjoyment was my confusion in having a man narrate "Beautiful" - it seemed a natural choice for the one female narrator to read and yet it went to the deepest-voiced male reader. A bit disconcerting but didn't take away my enjoyment, still an excellent story and he DID read it well.
All in all, despite my own mistake in not reading the title, I recommend this audiobook with all my little thriller-loving heart. If you like short stories that take an unexpected twist (and I do mean unexpected - Deaver is wonderful at subverting your expectations!), your credit will be well spent!

Overall it's worth the time and money

Alright this was the first time I ever took a chance on Mr. Deaver and now I practically own all his books...need to know anything else? BUT SERIOUSLY the stories are very entertaining and have amazing twist...hence "Twisted". I told one of the stories to my friend and he was just quiet for a couple of seconds then just looked at me (after obviously putting the puzzle together in his head) and said "whooaaaa that's amazing!"...anyways it's a good audiobook and I enjoyed the readers.
ps. a review before mine said you don't need to pay attention to the stories to grasp whats going on...VERY TRUE...I was taking a test while listening to the stories...and I passed...

Mystery Lite

The word that comes to mind when I want to recommend this audio listen is fun. The stories are not humurous but very entertaining and don't require a great deal of concentration. A perfect choice when doing chores or errands. None of the stories are very long and I found it easy to pick up where I left off during a day filled with multiple short drives. I enjoy reading books of short stories but this is my first time listening and definitely won't be the last time. The other reviews give you a good idea what the stories are like I just wanted to stress how well they are done.
