Publisher's summary

An old-school reporter discovers that the search for the truth is still full of surprises in a twisty short thriller from bestselling master of suspense Jeffery Deaver.

After a long run as a respected journalist, Edward “Fitz” Fitzhugh is on his way out when he stumbles across the story of a lifetime. The Gravedigger is a serial kidnapper who taunts the police with riddles. The other puzzle is his motive, which Fitz is determined to piece together. When an eyewitness to the latest abduction leads Fitz closer to the facts, he realizes that the last great story of his career is not at all what it appears to be.

Jeffery Deaver’s Buried is part of Hush, a collection of six stories, ranging from political mysteries to psychological thrillers, in which deception can be a matter of life and death. Each piece can be read or listened to in one truly chilling sitting.

Critic reviews

“Narrator JD Jackson's husky voice creates a neo-noir atmosphere for this short thriller.… Buried is as close as listeners may get to a serial killer cozy with humor and political satire - a fast listen without much blood and gore.” (AudioFile Magazine)

Buried

I didn't seem to connect with the author and the story, although the reading was fine. I found it not to be my kind of story, although I am sure others enjoyed it a lot.

Good story

I would have given this 5 stars except I’m getting tired of authors taking the God’s name in vain!

Hard to follow

This short story by Jefferey Deaver would have been enjoyable except it was very hard to focus and keep track of the story because of the monotonous narration.

Really Liked It

Started off a little slow. But, however, I really enjoyed this book. Kept me wondering who the kidnapper was. Never guessed the ending. Worth the time. Very good narrator. I know everyone has their own taste in narrators, but I thought JD Jackson did an amazing job narrating.

Buried

I had trouble staying connected to the story. I am not sure why. Jeffrey Deaver is a good writer. so maybe its just me.

Deaver Even Better Writer Than I Thought!

I am a big fan of the Memory Man series so I'm familiar with Jeffrey Deaver's writing. This Amazon Original from the Hush Collection has so much depth of thought and understanding, not only of human nature but of the connection between generations. An older, old school and ready to retire newspaper reporter forms a connection with a young online reporter/blogger and their love for writing and reporting bring them to the solution to a serial killer. Great empathy is formed between these two who spoke a completely different lingo at first. Lots of insight into old and new methods of reporting! Interesting all the way through. Narration was perfect!

Horrible Narration

Apparently this is part of a series. I missed that somehow. I have since downloaded the prior installments even though every story is a standalone. This particular one was OK. I think I just couldn’t really get into it because of the horrible narration. This is probably a MUCH better read than listen. I really was going to give it two stars, but chose not to penalize the author due to narration. I’ve read/listened to Deaver many times throughout the years. Unfortunately, I have been very underwhelmed lately with my audio choices. It did pass the time, was quick, and best of all FREE. It would be a good enough listen as a break in between novels.
