Publisher's summary

TERRIFIED...

It was supposed to be a harmless camping trip. Six wayward teenagers who'd run into trouble with the law, and their court-appointed guardians, Sara and Martin Randhurst. Three nights on a small, deserted island off of Michigan's upper peninsula. A time to bond, to learn, to heal.

Then Martin told a campfire story about the island's history. Of the old civil war prison hidden in there, and the starving confederate soldiers who resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. Everyone thought it was funny. They even laughed when Martin pretended to be dragged off into the woods.

But Martin didn't come back. And neither did Sara when she went in search of him.

Then the laughter stopped.

...TO DEATH

The group soon began to realize that this deserted island wasn't so deserted after all. And perhaps Martin's ridiculous story had more truth to it than anyone thought.

What's the most horrifying thing you can imagine?

This is a hundred times worse...

TRAPPED by Jack Kilborn
It starts where other horror ends

A Word of Warning

This is the long-awaited follow-up to AFRAID, one of the most horrifying books ever written.

Originally scheduled to be released in paperback in 2010, the publisher read the first version of the manuscript and refused to release it. The author made extensive changes, rewriting much of the story. The publisher still refused.

This is a disturbing, terrifying book. You may think you're brave enough to handle it. But you're probably not...

lots of torture and killing

this book was a bit disappointing due to the fact that the plot was more or less replaced with lots and lots of torture and killing. I would have preferred a better, more complete story than the disturbing gore. I like gore, but this was more like a bad horror movie, where theres not much of a plot and the main attraction is cutting people up.

This author is at the top of his game!

Right from Chapter 1 the horror begins. Kilborn weaves a well written story. A very disturbing story. The story is so disturbing and gory at times it's almost a guilty pleasure to enjoy each page. Enjoy, but be warned, this story is not for faint of heart.

Good story and endless surprises

I really enjoyed this book. although somewhat short it never stopped shocking and surprising. I really liked the characters and found myself liking some very dispicable antagonists. Very entertaining.

Great for the Halloween Season

‘Trapped’ is unadulterated horror at its best. Non-stop action from start to finish with killings so gruesome that you’ll flinch in fear. While there isn’t much of a plot (other than stay alive), the author does an great job transporting you to the island and pulling you though every branch, bramble and torture chamber. It’s a great read for Halloween but definitely not for those with weak stomachs.

The narrator does a wonderful job bringing the story to life and some of the small special affects really make the difference and add to the book's enjoyableness.

Chilling

I had started Haunted House without realizing it tied into Kilborn's other books. I had read "Afraid" already and remembered it was so disturbing I never wanted to read it again. Turns out this book is also connected to that one. I believe it's much less gory than "Afraid", but still creepy, which I enjoy. The narrator also was a great actor who helped deliver the emotion of the characters and built the tension.

Gory and fun, but not for everyone.

Where does Trapped rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

About 6 out of 10. Books are like food. Most of the time I eat healthy, good-for-you food. And sometimes I just want a nice greasy burger with large fries and a shake. This book was the greasy burger. It was gross, horrific, bloody and very tasty. What I liked best about this book was not really knowing how it was going to end. You get used to having the hero of the story come out victorious, or at least the bad guy is caught and punished. But this book keeps you guessing to the very end. It really doesn't seem like anyone is going to get out of this alive and that the bad guys win...... or do they??? ;)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trapped?

When one of the characters says "i ate Meadow, and he tasted like chicken". I laughed so hard i nearly lost control of my car. Just an awesome, cheesy, cornball piece of humor in the middle of a really gross and tense story.

What aspect of Phil Gigante’s performance would you have changed?

The way he voiced the African American characters. They were so incredibly stereotyped that it was almost offensive. But I believe that most of that was the writing -- the dialog for the African American kids felt like it was written by someone who watched Boyz In The Hood one too many times. The dialog was distractingly stuck in the 80's and it didn't allow me to connect with those characters because they were SUCH caricatures.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"I ate my friend, and he tasted like chicken!" aaaaahahahahaha... just classic.

Any additional comments?

This book is NOT for everyone!! I'll even venture to say that it's not for most. It's incredibly graphic and gross. The story reads like a B movie slasher flick, but I find those enjoyable so it didn't bother me. There are lots of characters doing really stupid things, lots of characters doing things that are just ridiculous and improbable and lots of hilarious bad guys. There's a myriad of things you can pick at about this book, but why bother. It's like watching a slasher flick and wondering why the girl in high heels and a bikini runs into the woods to get away from the killer.... what's the point... just enjoy the ride. This is not a intellectual piece of literature, but it sure was fun and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I absolutely loved this story !!!

In my opinion, this may be one of J. Kilborn best books. From the beginning the story had me hooked because of the character depth and description. But overall the plot twist and the narrator's performance kept me wanting more.
