Publisher's summary

In her compelling, beautifully crafted novel, New York Times best-selling author Marie Bostwick celebrates friendships old and new - and the unlikely threads that sometimes lead us exactly where we need to go.

Christmas is fast approaching, and New Bern, Connecticut, is about to receive the gift of a new pastor, hired sight unseen to fill in while Reverend Tucker is on sabbatical. Meanwhile, Margot Matthews’ friend, Abigail, is trying to matchmake, even though Margot has all but given up on romance. She loves her job at the Cobbled Court Quilt Shop and the life and friendships she’s made in New Bern, but she never thought she’d still be single on her fortieth birthday.

It’s a shock to the entire town when Philip A. Clarkson turns out to be Philippa. Truth be told, not everyone is happy about having a female pastor. Yet despite a rocky start, Philippa begins to settle in - finding ways to ease the townspeople’s burdens, joining the quilting circle, and forging a fast friendship with Margot. When tragedy threatens to tear Margot’s family apart, that bond - and the help of her quilting sisterhood - will prove a saving grace. And as she untangles her feelings for another new arrival in town, Margot begins to realize that it is the surprising detours woven into life’s fabric that provide its richest hues and deepest meaning.

Very enjoyable listen

I’ve had this in my library for months, and kept finding ones, more to my interest. I finally decided to try it, and am so glad I did! Very different, in a good way. Loved the story and characters, and how much it touched me. Highly recommend-mostly for women, but who knows!

Nice story

Nice story, nicely written, some great observations in faith. A bit predictable—who couldn’t see that blackmail situation coming a mile away?
Realistic depiction of a down-too-earth Christian community; the religious elements were not too in-your-face.
Narrator had a nice range & did a great job, with one exception: who decided the Bostonian pastor and her renowned, well-educated and respected pastor father should both have working-class Brooklyn accents? Who decided that? Just weird.
Other than that, a sweet story.

Not preachy

This story starts out with a lot of religion but that gets toned down to simply being neighborly. Kindness is paramount as people come to terms with reality. I enjoyed the characters and the ways they interacted.

Cobble Court Quilters Evolve

There are some surprises on Ties That Bind. The title gives a hint toward what happy relationships might take place. Enjoyed continuing reading more about this lovely little town and these hood friends.

Charming

Marie Bostwick knows how to enter our hearts and lives and put us in her stories. She is introspective and sensitive to the foibles of life's' ups and downs without being maudlin or explicit. We are allowed to interpret emotions according to our own ideals and mores. Looking forward to more from the cobbled court.

Love it

I have really enjoyed this series of books. I love her characters and plots. It’s nice to read a book about love that’s not full of smut.

Loved!

This was my first audiobook by Marie Bostwick. I truly enjoyed it. Xe Sands is an excellent narrator. I would love a duo read with her & Chris Brinkley.
