Entertaining, captivating, thrilling
Sad to say but my favorite character was Rafar Prince of Babylon. Frank does his voice so well. When he speaks you listen.
Each characters voice is well executed. I would run at night while listening to this book, and there were times I was frightened.
Marshall Hogan. Because that man leads an interesting life.
This audiobook might seem old school, but it's well worth the money. It was well done and is still holding its weight today.
Frank did an AMAZING job reading the book and bringing the true essence of the experience to life. It made my commute incredibly enjoyable for days...because I listened to it three times in a row.
Definitely worth the listen!
This is a great book well worth a listen. The only problem I have is with the narrator. I think he only narrates the abridged version of a couple of his books. IMHO Peretti is as good a narrator as he is an author and I wish he would narrate all of his books unabridged. I would also like to see the Cooper Kids Adventures (narrated by Peretti) published someday!
I'm a writer and I read like one. Just waiting for my big shot.
I consider the UN-abridged version of this book to be too lengthy in description–– every scene is over-described, full of fluffy description to the point of frustration. But at least you know what is going on. It takes a long time for the action to happen, but arguably there is a payoff.
THIS ABRIDGED VERSION is the opposite. Too dense. Too fast. Too much. They say less is more––but in this case, although there are less pages, there is just too much going on in too little space. My wife and I listened to fifteen minutes of this and just could not take any more.
Even having read part of the book before, I was unable to follow the story! The narrator was drowned by background music. But on top of this, we were bombarded with a slew of characters and descriptions without space or action to process the information.
Buy this ONLY if you have a project or homework assignment on this book for your school and you want to be able to pack a month's worth of reading into a couple of hours. Get ready for a headache, loads of rewinding––and you better have a hardcopy to follow along.
FOR FRANK PERETTI TO READ:
From one writer to another: I know people have told you the book is too long. What they really mean is not that they want a shorter book. The reader wants ACTION to drive the plot. Less is indeed more. But that is not a matter of pages. Give less details. But make the ones you give count. Get to the meat of the ACTION faster. Then stick to the fresh description (through more metaphor too)–– then reveal other details by dialogue. And of course, through ACTION. I love what you're trying to do with Christianity though. Loads of people I know have loved your book. I'm just one voice.
People like to dismiss what they do not understand, but this book enlightened me to what's really going in & around us in reality... real Talk!
This is an awesome book; listen to the entire book, not this abridged version.
Frank reads this well; just listen to the entire book, not this synopsis.
Spectacular sound presentation
I fell for this book in it's entirety and was blessed to have it as my first ever audiobook originally on tape in the early 90's. I can't pick just one. I've been hooked on audiobooks ever since.
This is by far my favorite version and I have listened to all of his books.
Rename a classic? You've got to be joking.
The sound quality and narration is fantastic. I highly recommend you listen with headphones the first time through to get the full surround sound experience. Frank's best book by far. The presentation of reality with the spirit world interlaced throughout is food for thought. Great story and I've always hoped for more along this genre after Piercing the Darkness.
Great book. I have always wanted to read it but could not find time in my busy schedule. It was so nice to finally hear the story on my drives to and from work.
it was all good.
An audible addict:)
Definately, it changes the way you think and react on prayer
Yes!!!! The way the story is told, the different voices, this is really great stuff
Will not change anything, this aithor knows what he is doing
"Inspiring experience of a great story!"
I was enthralled with this book many years ago and couldn't put it down so I was concerned that the abridged version in this audio would not impress. I was so wrong as I loved it from beginning to end! This is an inspired work and does not fail to deliver! Despite being fictional it has truth all the way through, and paints the picture of a God in control whose love for us is unshakable. Our part is to trust and pray, and not lose heart! This audio book is filled with sound effects that make the story come alive, and the author reads it very well. There is much evidence in the Bible of a spiritual battle that rages all around us, this audio book makes it come alive with inspirational and encouraging results.
Having read this book before I had pre conceived ideas but being able to just sit there and listen the words became real and the sound effects and music made it a compelling book
"Spiritual warfare at its best"
Want to be gripped by an amazing story of spiritual warfare, intrigue and love then read this captivating book and be enthralled.
