Publisher's summary

From David Wong, the writer of the cult sensation John Dies at the End comes another terrifying and hilarious tale of almost Armageddon at the hands of two hopeless heroes.

Warning: You may have a huge, invisible spider living in your skull. THIS IS NOT A METAPHOR.

You will dismiss this as ridiculous fear-mongering. Dismissing things as ridiculous fear-mongering is, in fact, the first symptom of parasitic spider infection - the creature stimulates skepticism, in order to prevent you from seeking a cure. That's just as well, since the "cure" involves learning what a chainsaw tastes like. You can't feel the spider, because it controls your nerve endings. You won't even feel it when it breeds. And it will breed.

Just stay calm, and remember that telling you about the spider situation is not the same as having caused it. I'm just the messenger. Even if I did sort of cause it. Either way, I won't hold it against you if you're upset. I know that's just the spider talking.

"Like an episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead" written by Douglas Adams of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." …Imagine a mentally ill narrator describing the zombie apocalypse while drunk, and the end result is unlike any other book of the genre. Seriously, dude, touch it and read it." –Washington Post

"Kevin Smith's Clerks meets H.P. Lovecraft in this exceptional thriller… David Wong (Jason Pargin) is a fantastic author with a supernatural talent for humor. If you want a poignant, laugh-out-loud funny, disturbing, ridiculous, self-aware, socially relevant horror novel than This Book is Full of Spiders: Seriously Dude, Don't Touch It is the one and only book for you." –SF Signal

Than kissing your cousin on the mouth and without all of the awkward Thanksgiving dinners.

Seriously Good and Fun

If you are intrigued by the sound of the title of this book, you are in a treat for a load of horror science fiction, adventure, creepy scares, monsters, shadowy government agents, weird otherworldly weapons, slapstick irreverent humor, a good dog and an awesome nerdy woman. Fans of movies Hot Fuzz, Shaun of The Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and This is The End will love this Audiobook / book. I did.

The writing is good, the plot is coherent, the twist are unexpected but not messy, and characters are lovable. This is my first book by David Wong and I look forward to reading more of his works ... especially in Audiobook format. Another superb performance by Nick Podehl (narrator).

Seriously, dude, don't miss this!

Even better than John Dies at the End.

If you could sum up This Book Is Full of Spiders in three words, what would they be?

Ridiculous, funny, engaging.

What did you like best about this story?

Until the final few chapters, it's hard to say exactly what is going on or how the characters are going to manage to resolve it. Dave, John, Amy and Molly the dog all return and manage to grow quite a bit throughout this story. They're joined by a few familiar and a few new main characters which all help to make the town of [UNDISCLOSED] seem horrifyingly real and twisted.

Any additional comments?

Because the previous book, John Dies at the End, had originally been published as a web series, it lacks a certain amount of cohesive structure in places. Dave and Arnie even talk in the story about how there are huge pieces which don't work. This book, on the other hand, was written to be published as a novel and it definitely shows. I loved the movie of John Dies at the End, and although that film did a good job with the ridiculousness of the story, this would make a much, much better film. Getting more insight with the internal thoughts and motivations of John, Dave, Amy (and even Molly the dog) make all the characters much more compelling than they were in JDatE. The narration definitely does a good job of bringing the characters to life and the overdub of [UNDISCLOSED] remains pretty humorous every time they use it.

One of the most well-performed books I've owned.

What did you love best about This Book Is Full of Spiders?

Narrator Nick Podehl does an incredible job. His characters are so well-voiced that at times I forgot it was just a single person narrating. The story is really good as well. A lot of other reviewers liked John Dies at the End better, but I feel like Wong's maturity as an author (not necessarily as a person) is reflected more strongly in this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think all of the characters were well developed. I'm not sure if I would have felt this way if simply reading the book, but I think the narration contributed strongly to the listener's ability to experience each character's vibe.

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've covered this, but I think he took the book to another level. I felt like I was really engrossed in it due to the narration. I've listened to many books and this was by far the most well narrated of them all. He really captured each character's unique personalities and quirks.

If you could take any character from This Book Is Full of Spiders out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Molly.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a fun book with a good story and some adventure, it's worth a credit! Don't take it too seriously.

It's one big dick joke

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Each character was individualized and brought to life with dramatized expertise

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This Movie Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Watch It

David Wong doing what he does best

Funny off the wall gorey irreverent humor with distinct and relatable characters. Wongs prose also manages to bring a little social awareness to the events.
Nick Podehl did a great job bringing these characters to life. Each with a distinct personality. Talented narrator

Very different.

first off I want to give praise to the narrator! without him this book would have been missing a very important piece! He was the best! he was just that great! The story itself was good too, but also very different from what I usually read, so it was kinda like a " oh...okay" roll your eyes moments at times. But then you have to remember it is just a story! If this is the type of stories you like, then yes its 5 stars! its well written, descriptive, outrageous, action packed, very funny and at times the characters are very realistic. And at times Not! Anyway I went out of my comfort zone and tried something different, and that is what I got!

This Book is Insane

I love that David Wong being a movie nerd translates to the best kind of cinematic imagery in his books. I never had any idea where we going but I was all in the whole time.
