"One would expect the son of Mel Brooks to have a genetic predisposition to humor, and indeed, he does, and he exhibits it relentlessly here." (Publishers Weekly)

Amusing, but still terrifying

This is a pretty good book to listen to you if you want some fictional info-tainment on zombies. The content is humorous, but it still inspires a feeling of panic and terror if such a thing were to actually happen. The first hour was lackluster, when it's describing the origins and physiology of zombies. However, it suprisingly gains momentum when it gets to the section on weapons, defense, terrain, etc... Though it's meant to be purely fictional, the ideas presented can still be used in other massive-disaster scenarios. The information is still useful even though it's centered around a zombie outbreak.

I'd definately recommend this if you enjoyed World War Z. In addition, a good half of the book is similar to World War Z, as it tells the stories of survivors, but not as gripping and with as much detail as said book. It's done in a historical-drama, following zombie outbreaks from the 50,000 BC, ancient Rome, imperial China, all the way to the present, and how people in those time era and places thought of the zombies and how they fought them.

It's ripe with intelligent, though fictional, tips and strategies. Not anyone could have just written this book. I really enjoyed it.

Interesting topic, but not a good audiobook.

I'm a big fan of anything zombie/zombie survival, so I really enjoyed the content of the book, but the whole 'guide' genre doesn't really lend itself to audiobook format.

Skip this one and get World War Z by Max Brooks instead.

I am now Zombie Proof

Written much like a survival guide, this book gives instruction for eveything from a Zombie attack to Zombie's underwater, the best way to stop a Zombie, and how to avoid Zombie's altogether. I listened to this book on a very drive at night, I found myself really listening as if a Zombie were going to try to attack me at a rest stop! Never losing its seriousness, this book is an odd one. I liked it and still think of Zombie's showing up on the beach.

Sometimes printed books should just stay printed.

I'd read a bit of this book in paperback. Some Audio books should stay paperback, this is one of them. It's like listening to someone read a chemistry book to you.

Is this funny?

I got this because of a hillarious deadpan segment about WWIII: the Zombie war, on NPR. I was expecting to laugh, but maybe I just don't get it. Mostly it's just tedious boredom. If I remind myself how ridiculous the whole thing is I do chuckle a bit, but that's about it. I want my credit back.

Great book but

the narrator was not that great. He wasn't terrible but there wasn't much life or variation in his voice and it seemed to be slightly off in pitch. Granted this is what it says it is a manual, sure its about surviving a hypothetical and wholly fictional zombie apocalypse but the narrator is still quite dry. Nonetheless if you're a zombie fan its right up your ally and I highly recommend it.

A zombie hunter's best friend

Want to know how to defend against radioactive zombies? This book covers that scenario. Want to know how to fight zombies underwater? This book covers that too. Want to know how to survive years, possibly decades, during the reign of the living dead? Once again, Max Brooks has your back. Everything you could ever ask about zombies and the looming zombie apocalypse is contained in this, surprisingly scientific, survival manual.

Furthermore, Mark Cashman does a terrific job narrating which is something considering that he's basically reading a really bizarre text book. I really enjoyed this, but I'd recommend listening to it in small bursts to let it sink in easier. Definitely worth one Audible credit and could save your life one day...
Highly recommended!

Boredom

This book was horrible. His first book had a plot and was fun. This book took the premise seriously. You might as well get your average survival guide. Please don't waste your credits.
