Publisher's summary

Edgar Award Winner, Best Paperback Original, 2014

On a fateful summer morning in 1986, two 11-year-old girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, they will both be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside vacation town when her investigation leads her to interview carnival cleaner Amber Gordon.

For Kirsty and Amber, it's the first time they've seen each other since that dark day so many years ago. Now with new, vastly different lives - and unknowing families to protect - will they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden? Gripping and fast-paced, with an ending that will stay with you long after you've listened to it, The Wicked Girls will appeal to fans of the Academy Award–nominated film Heavenly Creatures and the novels of Rosamund Lupton and Chevy Stevens.

Great story, very excellent narration.

This is a compelling listen. Never a dull moment with lots of action, suspense and eeriness. Themes of redemption, secrets, the pressure of media and society, the sadness of lost childhood and reinvention weave through lives of full characters. Very well written, highly recommended!

Really Good Story and Better Narrator

This wouldn't be as good of a Book without Anna Bentinck's narration. So many ancients done with ease and made this story so much better.
Following these two girls and what they've done and how their present lives are still affected after all the years is so well written with all the twist and turns of a good "who dunnit and why" and then the ending is not what you'd expect at all. Well worth the purchase.

Meh. Okay.

It wasn't awful, just not great. It bounced back and forth between times and characters, which sometimes got confusing and showed some characters' points of view that were rather insignificant and unnecessary to the story, imo. And the ending was, while unpredictable, sort of unsatisfying. Narration was okay. So, while it wasn't terrible, I would've rather spent my credit on something else.

Entertaining read!

I loved the two main characters, Amber and Kirstie, and the way
you slowly learn about their true character. Set in a gritty seashore
theme park of Great Britain, the tragic unfolding of their original crime set amidst the brutal serial murders of a number of unlucky women,
makes for a very good read indeed.

Suspenseful, distressing, sad, many emotions

At first listen, I wasn’t too sure and stopped several chapters in. Later, I tried again and am glad I did. I love my British suspenseful whodunits and this has many twists and turns. Chapter by chapter, we go from one character to another (a preferred writing style of mine). Excellent narration and well-written. A long-ago secret follows two young women through the years. Was it truly their fault? Make up your own mind. This is one of the saddest audiobooks in my vast Audible library.

I enjoyed hearing about a life and lifestyle very different from mine. The characters were believable and interesting.

Fabulous narration

I found the story itself to be well written and enjoyable but it was made fantastic for me by the wonderful narrator. I would recommend this.
