Publisher's summary

Edgar Award Winner, Best Paperback Original, 2014

On a fateful summer morning in 1986, two 11-year-old girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, they will both be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside vacation town when her investigation leads her to interview carnival cleaner Amber Gordon.

For Kirsty and Amber, it's the first time they've seen each other since that dark day so many years ago. Now with new, vastly different lives - and unknowing families to protect - will they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden? Gripping and fast-paced, with an ending that will stay with you long after you've listened to it, The Wicked Girls will appeal to fans of the Academy Award–nominated film Heavenly Creatures and the novels of Rosamund Lupton and Chevy Stevens.

2nd Time is Even Better

I’ve been desperate for a new Alex Marwood book, and then said to myself why don’t you just re-read the ones you already have. Anna Bentinck is amazing. Definitely one of the best narrators on Audible. As for the book, I never want to give anything away. It would be a great book club read, or to just share with a friend. You definitely want to talk about it. It’s a very well thought out. She did an excellent job with the subject matter.

Great twist in the story. it surprised me

I started listening and didn't stop till it was over. There were a couple of unforseen twists that changed my whole perspective. I was very entertained. I enjoyed the voices and characters provided by the narrator. I recommend this to all!!

slow, slow, quick quick, slow

i found parts of this book dragged on a bit... then got crazy detailed/heavy plot-wise, a bit back and forth. there were often times i had trouble keeping track of which was which person. also sometimes the time period would change without warning and it would take me a few seconds to figure out what was up.
however, the narrator was EXCEPTIONAL! brilliant accents and voice changes for characters. i'll be looking for more work by Anna Bentinck.

One of my new favorites!!!

This was a brilliant story that hooked me from the start and never let me go! The narrator displays great skill making the voices of the different characters distinct and consistent! I have never planned to re listen to an audio book, but this will be on cue the next time I run out of credits!!! I only wish audible had more than two of Alex Marwood's books. I have listened to them both and greedily want more!

engrossing listen

this one captured me right out of the gate. vivid storytelling, excellent narration. a couple elements are predictible, but perhaps that is only because human beings are predictable. original story, familiar good vs evil theme, but from a surprising direction. Highly recommend.

Great plot

This was an great story. It kept my attention. However, at times, the story was difficult to follow in regards to keeping the two main characters straight, in-line with their childhood selves. This made for some confusion and caused me to give up making sense of it during certain parts of the story.

Better than what I expected

If you could sum up The Wicked Girls in three words, what would they be?

Well worth reading

Any additional comments?

I put off reading this because I expected to be repelled by the actions of the two girls. Now that I have read it, I am so glad I did. The setting, Funland, reflects perfectly the intricacies of the story. As in a hall of mirrors, what you think you see may not be an accurate reflection of the truth. And modern day media frenzies belong in the house of horrors. All in all it was a very good read and a very thought provoking look into our modern lives. It will stay in my mind forever as I read the news about so called bad people.

Do not hestitate to read this book. The author is to be complementated for bringing this story to our consciousness.

I need to brush up on my British slang...

I love British authors and narrators, a strong accent and British slang got the better of me at times during this listen. This story is dark, depressing and painful to listen to, but it taught me a big lesson on judging people and if you choose to listen to this story you may understand what I am saying. This is a story of 2 girls, killers as children, and what happens when they encounter each other again as adults.
