Publisher's summary

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She's made a mistake so huge, it'll wreck any chance of a partnership.

Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she's mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they've hired a lawyer, and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can't sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope - and finds love - is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake.

But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?

Praise for The Undomestic Goddess

"Light and breezy... Samantha is eminently likable, and overworked readers will empathize with her glee at her first full weekend off in years." (Christian Science Monitor)

"Sophie Kinsella is at the top of the chick lit game. Her plots are fast-paced and entertaining, with the perfect amount of realistic neurosis to accompany her quirky heroines." (New York Post)

"Perfectly amusing... The Undomestic Goddess is a genuinely funny, sweet book. Kinsella is a comic whiz who consistently delivers what her readers crave." (Miami Herald)

"A lovely romantic comedy." (Washington Post)

Fun Read

I was sceptical about this book but found that I really enjoyed it. The narrator was excellent. The material was funny and refreshing. Not the same old same old.

Such fun!

I was surprised that this was my favorite of the Kinsella books. Not only was this book a fun, light story, but it reminded me of myself- balancing career and the need to relax. I think of this book after the fact when I remember to stop and smell the flowers. I enjoyed the narration as well.

Zany, Just lots of fun

This book like "I've Got Your Number" is a really good, light-hearted, and fun listening experience. The Brit accent adds much. If you need a de-stressing, enjoyable time filler don't miss this one,

Another great one!

I've listened to this book 3 times now over the last several years. It never disappoints. Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors. I always feel like I'm living the character's life, feeling the character's feelings in her books.

So funny I have listened to it twice!

I loved this book. The entire premise is a little whacky but this is a wonderful book about the least domestic person ever. It is so funny and every time I think of her curtsey, I laugh again. I really don't like English accents but I imagine I am going to buy many more of her audible books after this one.

Good story, abrupt ending

Fun read; typical Sophie Kinsella. Overall I very much liked the book. It’s a bit different in that it brings up the question of class structure, intellectual snobbery, and focus on appearance, but not at all in a preachy way, which I totally applaud. The heroine is lovable, humble, and sadly a bit illogical for someone with a genius IQ. The hero is tall and sexy and smart and thoughtful, but really, the story isn’t about him, so he’s not well developed.

Bottom line, I liked the story line, skimmed over/fast forwarded the frustrating illogical parts, and laughed at the awkward funny parts. What I did not like, very much did not like, was the ending. I get the hanging, endless possibilities, but goodness, it was like her typewriter just broke so she said Good Enough and handed it in! Abrupt and hugely disappointing.

Read the book, but be prepared to write your own ending. Or epilogue. or sequel!

Better to read,

I've read, and now listened to the book and it was much funnier as I read it. I just don't think the narrator projected the funniest bits as they were writtten. Shame.

Sophie Kinsella doesn’t disappoint!

Fresh story, great narration, perfect book to listen while you knit....I had to put down my needles several times in fits of laughter though :)

Still cute, just not the original

This story is still funny and lovable, and well worth the credit if you have not yet listened to it. This was one of the first audiobook CDs I purchased, and when I found it on Audible I was super excited. That changed when I realized this was not the same version I previously owned. Both were unabridged, but this version seems not only to be "remastered" but contain "a director's cut" of extra scenes. My CDs are currently in a moving box, so I can't give you exact details. I can say, it was a little disappointing to expect one thing and be given another. The voice choice for Trish was the biggest distraction. I have grown to love the nasally lovable working class Trish. This new narrative and extra scenes almost make her harder, colder, and more b**chy. The mother (a barrister) went from being too busy in her career (foreshadowing parallels) and abscent in her daughter's life to being over controlling and unusually demanding of an adult daughter that she doesn't make time for. All of her extra scenes did nothing but add unnecessary strife. Not sure why all the changes, but if you purchased the CD back in the early 2K, be aware that this is the same narrator but a completely different version.

Dianne... San Antonio

One of the best life stories that may be made fairytale and Landor is superb I love unabridged because sadly the story always is halved and the reader loses the authors thought
