"I liked it but I didn't love it"

This is my first listen with this author. While I think she is a good writer she didn't keep my attention and it seemed slow. I like all the characters. The setting is good. The narration is good. It just didn't grab my attention. I think I may have become tainted by so many fast action type books and chick lit usually moves fast. At the time I purchased this one I purchased The Beach House also....I am going to wait awhile to try it.

    "Enjoy her books, but -"

I have read or listened to all her books and enjoyed them and learned something from them. They are particularly interesting to me because I live in Charleston. The biggest issue I have with this book is the author's narration. She reads it with the intonation one would use when reading children's books aloud.

    Story
    "No ending"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love Mary Alice Monroe books not only because of the stories but because I always learned something, turtles, raptors, butterfly's but this book I really didn't learn anything. The story was there just no ending, her stories usual end good with you feeling good. This just ended

Has The Summer Girls turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I will continue with Monroe and other writers in the genre. Hoping this is just a one time issue.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The people all came to life, you could feel for each of them and where they were in this time of their life.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, not unless someone told me the ending was good.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe Mary Alice Monroe with write a part 2 to this story. I can always hope.

"This book never really gets there..."
What did you like best about The Summer Girls? What did you like least?

Monroe sets the stage with interesting, likable characters and a good scenario but fails to deliver. It felt like the book ended with the prologue. Three half-sisters each with a multitude of personal issues are meant to come together for the summer to reconnect; however, the story ends up focusing on one character and all of the build up of the story-line is lost as the author never follows through.

"Another great story with wonderful characters!"
Would you listen to The Summer Girls again? Why?

This is one book you will want to listen to over and over. Mary Alice is not only a wonderful author but she reads her own books and, really, I can't imagine anyone else reading her stories to us. She knows her characters better than anyone and becomes them as she's reading her story to us!

The best part is that this is the first book in a trilogy and you will be looking for the second book as soon as you finish this one! But......we'll have to wait until next year and it will be well worth waiting for!

"Great book... Great story... but ended so abruptly"
    Any additional comments?

I know this book is the first of a trilogy, however, I felt like it left too many thing open. It defiantly makes me want for more! Hurry up and get the next few books out please!
