Publisher's summary

Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again.

Winter 1999: Grace Bradley, 98, one-time housemaid of Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken and memories, long consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks. A shocking secret threatens to emerge; something history has forgotten but Grace never could.

Set as the war-shattered Edwardian summer surrenders to the decadent 20s, The Shifting Fog is a thrilling mystery and a compelling love story.

An alternate title for this novel is The House at Riverton.

WOW

As much as I LOVE her books, I would like to see the "evil doers" get more consequences

Complex and rich in detail

As with all Kate Morton's stories, it covers many years and lifetimes. Her ability to weave together a story is remarkable. I have enjoyed every minute of each of her stories, The Shifting Fog is excellent and the narration consistently excellent as well.

It's long, but pretty good

I love Kate Morton books, but I think this one isn't one of my favorites. The story is pretty good, and as Always. The author uses all her time to tells what and how the events happened that night, but to explain and to to situate the reader, it was necessary to go back in time, when everyone was very Young and innocents. This trip through time, in my view, makes the story a bit tiring at times. However, the story is very well told, with an impeccable narration.
It is a book that is worth being known.
