The heir to Martina Cole’s crown with a story of murder, the underworld, violence and treachery.
It’s 1983 and Stephanie Crouch’s life is dull. She is desperate to escape the run-down, pokey council house she shares with her overbearing family, but at fourteen years old she has nowhere to go.

But too young to control their fate, Stephanie and Barry are torn apart when he is whisked away to Spain by his family. Lonely and heartbroken Stephanie turns to Barry’s childhood friend Wayne for comfort, and their friendship soon blossoms into romance, leaving Barry fuming and promising revenge....,P>Ten years later Barry returns to England. Within one month Stephanie's happy world with Wayne is turned upside down. People immediately start to point the finger of accusation at Barry, but is he the one to blame? Or, should Stephanie look elsewhere to find the schemer who has ruined her life?

"Easily as good as Martina Cole." (News of the World)
"[a] faced-paced tale with gritty authenticity." (The Guardian)
A mystery involving the relationships and betrayals of well developed characters over decades. No cliches. A story with many unpredictable twists and turns.
The diversity of all the characters and how they were all relatable to real life.
Yes definetly!! Basically by just wanting to know what happens.
each character was had was made to sound interesting
Gosh this is a hard one due the fact I liked them all. But if I had to choose it would be Stephs mom because she was always so strong.
This book was absolutley amazing and riviting!! Looking forward to The Schemer part 2.
"Cracking good read"
I would highly recommend this audiobook as the narrator is easy to listen to once you get used to the accent and manages to hold your interest with the pacy story.
Yes but that would not be practical
As I was saying I would highly recommend this audiobook as the story never wanes into boring uninteresting territory, there are several twists and turns and you somehow care about one or two of the characters and want to know what has happened to them. To say much more would be to give away the plot in this mystery story. One of my favourites and recommend without hesitation as an excellent listen.
