I don't care for the Romance genre: too sappy, navel gazing and yak, yak, yak about feelings -- not for me. This was advertised as a mystery book, but I'd say 80% romance. I admit I've only listened to the first half (and am debating whether to continue) but the mystery seems very typical of romance novels: the heroine is being threatened/stalked/bothered by somebody not yet identified, and the hero happens along and together they save the day. Why bother giving it my time if I know how it's going to turn out and nothing that interesting or original has happened along the way so far?
For people who can stomach romance novels, the characters seem interesting enough, and the performance seems pretty good. The author does a good job for a romance book -- I'm assuming that audience likes all the angst and talking about feelings and doubts and attraction-resistance between the main characters that replaces a lot of the action you would get in a good mystery.
I really wished they had been clear how religious this book is. I felt like the writer was trying to convince me to become an evangelic which I have no intention to do.
I resent paying for a book with such goals. I will definitely request a refund and I suggest Audible being more clear about such topics( religion) which is a very personal choice, not something someone expects to find in a spy book...
From now on I will make sure NEVER to order another book by Dee Henderson.
I loved the story. The male narrator just didn't do justice to the female voices. This was a real disappointment to me. Why use a male narrator with a female star and vice versa? I love to lose myself in these books. I couldn't with this one, because sometimes I wasn't sure who was talking. Don't mean to be cruel. To me it was a wonderful book that was spoiled, not to the point of returning it though.
I love Dee Henderson's dramatic but sensitive style and the wit that is always present.
I have heard other books and thought, "Wish I were reading this myself". However, not so with Tom. It was as if I WERE actually reading it. He picks up the wit and drama very well.
Love a good book and great wine!
I will listen to the Negotiator again and again. It is like a good movie that you will gleen something new each time your hear it.
The moment Kate was in church and realized what faith is.
I do remember him on any other books, but he has a voice that melts me to my soul.
Again the church - moment of knowing for Kate.
The characters could all be someone we know. The situation could happen, but the intergrating of the characters, explaining their emotions, the background of each person. was amazing. I feel as if I could see them in person I would know them instantly.
This is a Christian novel and first in a series. I enjoyed all of the stories. They had a little bit of everything, romance , action, drama, laughter, and saddness. If you like good christian novels you can't go wrong with this series. The narrator took a bit getting used to but didn't detract from the overall experience.
I personally prefer the print version of any book, but the audio version is great
Guy with Weird Interests
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun listen. This was the first of several Christian fiction books that I listened to while driving to work. I discovered this book, like most book in that genera are geared towards women. This is one of them. It is more action packed than most (gun fights, stand-offs, etc.), but it's still chick lit.
Seriously limited TIME! which is why I love audiobooks. I can do chores and ignore distractions by plugging my ears with my favorite authors
I have just finished reviewing Danger in the Shadows and as my personal headline reads I have limited spare time. I would like to say, refer back to my review of DitS and that will say it all. Dee Henderson and Tom Stechschulte make a crack team!
p.s. I would like to make a correction about the O'Malley Series #2 is The Guardian but #4 is The Healer, #6 is The Rescuer
Relationships with action; I couldn't wait for the next part or book to continue the story.
