The narrators were wonderful and kept me listening.
So shortly after reading this book and telling a friend about this book I then found out this book is going to be a movie.
The book is great and has a great twist. I thought it would be a typical black novel set in New York...but ohhhh I was wrong. You won't be disappointed with this book!!
A newlywed who loves to read. I'm trying out different genres and seeing what I like :)
I loved the fact that I had NO IDEA who was to blame!! Even when I thought I knew, It completely changed on me!!
My favorite character was Connie. She had to deal with a lot of mess from her husband and in the end she got the guy she deserved!
Oh yes!!! I was crying and laughing and oohing and ahhing and cheering!! This book was great!
Great book and the narrators were great!!
This was a great listen! I just recently started listening to Carl Weber books and he has yet to disappoint me. I loved how Darryl was able to love one of the characters through her insecurities. He supported her when no one else would. I would have loved more character development for Darryl. Honestly even though he was the main character we still didn't learn much about him. Why was he wearing that darn ankle bracelet? Anyway this book is still excellent. Buy it now!
I am an urban fiction addict!! Wahida Clark books are my fave! I love the Thug Series. I am an avid reader and Audible makes it even better!
I love Carl Webber. This book was okay. A bit predictable at times, but its still work a listen. I This was my first audible book, so I really love each character having their own voice when its their chapter. The performance made the book better. Had I actually read this on my own, Im sure I wouldnt have liked it as much.
Well written with plenty of drama! Great plot that had me laughing out loud and talking to the characters: "yeah, well, you should know better!" I really liked the end of this story.... I didn't see it coming, but I got my wish for a happy ending. Be ready to suspend your belief when it comes to police procedure, but it works in order to push the story along the path to the ending that is a real surprise. The narrators are wonderful and performs the story well, even tho I didn't particularly like the "valley girl" voice for Crystal but after getting into the story, I begin to feel that the voice was perfect for the character's personality and even started to like the voice. Highly recommend for the entertainment value...
I would recommend it to others.
Definitely edgy with several unexpected twist and turns. Depth of characters were rich as was character development.
Good use of multiple readers.
It reminded me of a mystery story.
Benny confronting Darryl, only to find out they both were own two different levels.
The narrators brought the characters to life
None of them lol, they all got issues
I love to read and I love to listen to a good story!
YES, truly enjoyed it
The narrators did great!
I stayed up one night trying to listen...It was crazy
Just another girl with too many books and not enough time for them all.
This was my first book by this author Carl Weber who has about 20 books to his resume. The man in 3B is hot and seems to catch the eye of every single female in his new building. Who is this man? Daryl Graham and he has a ankle bracelet not from a jewelry store but from the county. Daryl loved Krystal years ago. Daryl is good looking and well respected by the thugs in the neighborhood. That's it! That is all I found out about him in this book. Oh Wait! One more thing. He wears a gold star of David around his neck. Ok. That's it!
A murder takes place in this book and every single person in the building is now a suspect. Each chapter you get to read various perspectives on a character's relationship to Daryl as they try to build their alibis. There is Avery, husband to Connie and a general awful verbally abusive man. Connie, his wife is overweight and tries to fix everything for Avery. Connie soon seeks out the help of Daryl to lose weight and Avery is pissed! There is Benny the newly 21 year old who looks up to Daryl to his fathers chagrin and distress. There is Krystal, daughter of Avery and her fiance. She broke Daryl's heart years ago and just moved into the building.
This book is just like Bewster's Place with the neighbors stories inter and co-mingling though out. Complete with love triangles and who is sleeping with whos? There is so much going on in this one. I think I would have enjoyed this read if there were not sooo many holes in the story. Like why does Daryl have so much respect from people? Why is he under house arrest? Others I can't write about without spoiling the end.
There was just way to much drama for my taste but I found the ending interesting. I didn't see it coming.
As for the narrators I thought they all did a good job. Not amazingly good but good! They were really trying to put emotion into their parts. For some reason the narrator that read for Krystal annoyed me and I am ok with it because the character did too!
It was just ok! The plot was just ok! The narrators were just ok!
Pretty Good but...
I really liked the overall story and the lives of all the tenants. I liked each character and all their stories. I loved how they were all connected some how.
I loved the narrator of Connie the most. She was passionate and I really felt like she gave the best performance.
How much do you really know about your neighbors?
I really enjoyed this book overall. I liked all the narrators except Krystal. I hated the narrator of Krystal. She didn't know how to perform or use the appropriate emotion for the situation. She read all her parts in the same peppy happy voice. It just didn't fit. I didn't like the ending. I felt it was too Lifetime movie ending. I think he even says that in the book. I wish there was a different ending. But overall it was worth listening to.
