Publisher's summary

In pre-war Prague, the dreams of two young lovers are shattered when they are separated by the Nazi invasion. Then, decades later, thousands of miles away in New York, there's an inescapable glance of recognition between two strangers. Providence is giving Lenka and Josef one more chance. From the glamorous ease of life in Prague before the Occupation, to the horrors of Nazi Europe, The Lost Wife explores the power of first love, the resilience of the human spirit, and the strength of memory.

Beautiful and haunting - a must listen

This book at turns stunned me and moved me to tears. The characters are vivid and nuanced and you will feel them. The story and details feel unflinchingly honest and yet not overwrought. I often sat stunned by the horror depicted in calm tones by amazing narrators, then found myself crying as the same narrators describe the unfathomable love that still exists within the darkest, most painful times, highlighting the extreme potentials of humanity - the evil and the transcendent. You will not regret listening to this book. It is excellent in so many ways. I am particularly glad I listened to this book as opposed to reading it - the narrators bring an additional vitality and humanity to already tangible characters.

A New All Time Favorite

What did you love best about The Lost Wife?

The writing is superb. Full of important detail and emotion. The story is so believable and some what true.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two main characters are my favorite but the writer makes it to where you are just routing for everyone to be ok.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The same, "The Lost Wife". It fits.

Any additional comments?

This book just had such a great story and I had a hard time every time I had to stop listening. It is sad but it has such history to it that it makes it such a great listening.

At the top of my "favorites" list.

This was such a good story. I also learned a lot about the Holocaust. So history as well as entertainment. Both male and female narrators were excellent.

Great story and narration

I have no idea how I ended up with The Lost wife in my library but as I looked for a new book to listen to I realized I had not listened to this one yet.
I was hooked from the first chapter. The narrators are very good. I think two of the best I have ever heard. The story line was well developed and the history...oh it was horrific! But not the book! Listen to it! You will greatly enjoy it (although many parts are difficult to listen to since it involves concentration. Amps).

A moving and tragic story that brought me to tears. But also it’s full of hope.

Excellent

From chapter 2 I know the story would keep me entertained throughout. Since it is a live stay out can see how it will end but you root for the main characters.

The history told in very vivid detail tells me a story of a concentration camp that I was unaware of. The intrigue with the Nazis and the Jews has you spellbound.

My favorite genre is historical fiction. This is a must read if you enjoy that as well.
