This searing and inspiring prequel to ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY is the story of Cassie Logan's grandfather. Paul-Edward is the son of a white father and a half-black, half-Indian mother. His father raises him almost as if he were white, but when it counts, he's treated as a black man with racist spite and hatred. He cannot fit into either the black world or the white world. The one thing that Paul-Edward loves is the land, and he spends the rest of his life trying to own land of his own. He takes on a variety of jobs, and is brutally cheated and mistreated by his white employers, but he eventually succeeds, at great personal and financial cost, in owning his own patch of land.©2001 Mildred D. This is a great story that is both engaging and exciting. I was drawn right into the characters and could really identify with their struggles. Great narration.

I absolutely love this but it is one of my favorite I have listened to it maybe 10 times over the last 7 years I never really get sick of it and I love the narrator he really bring this book alive and makes me feel like I can really see what's going on in the life of the people and during that time

Great Book For Adults & Youths

The story of the life of Paul Edward and Big ma and there lives and if how the Logand ended up with their own land instead of sharecropping is amazing. If you are a fan of Mildred Taylor and The Logan Family saga you should definitely buy this book

I loved it

This book was the first book I ever truly read for myself as a kid. When I remembered that I read this book before I figured it would be nostalgic to listen to it. And it was. but since now I had grown up more I now can relate with the story on a whole new level.

Because I'm a black man with huge ambitions this book reminds me of a world that used to exist but never forgot how blessed I am to live in today's world despite today's own problems.

This book is a story for all people because anyone can take from it and use the hope it offers but I highly suggest that if you are Black(with no means to sound racist because I'm not) You should take the time to read or listen to this book. It truly is a classic and I'm proud to have it in my collection and will return to it often in the future.

A story Worth Reapeating
