Ever since running away at the age of fourteen, Paul-Edward, the son of a white landowner and a black slave, has had one dream: to own land every bit as good as his daddy's. While growing up, Paul-Edward loved, and feared, his father, but he loved the land unconditionally. Then, after a rash act of youthful rebellion, he leaves his family behind and vows to succeed on his own. However, for anyone black coming of age in 1880s Mississippi, this is no simple goal. From horse racing to lumber camps to outwitting double-crossing businessmen, Paul-Edward will do what it takes to make his dream come true, along the way discovering his own strength, learning the value of friendship and even falling in love.©2001 Mildred D. This is a great story that is both engaging and exciting. I was drawn right into the characters and could really identify with their struggles. Great narration.

The story of the life of Paul Edward and Big ma and there lives and if how the Logand ended up with their own land instead of sharecropping is amazing. If you are a fan of Mildred Taylor and The Logan Family saga you should definitely buy this book

I loved it

This book was the first book I ever truly read for myself as a kid. When I remembered that I read this book before I figured it would be nostalgic to listen to it. And it was. but since now I had grown up more I now can relate with the story on a whole new level.

Because I'm a black man with huge ambitions this book reminds me of a world that used to exist but never forgot how blessed I am to live in today's world despite today's own problems.

This book is a story for all people because anyone can take from it and use the hope it offers but I highly suggest that if you are Black(with no means to sound racist because I'm not) You should take the time to read or listen to this book. It truly is a classic and I'm proud to have it in my collection and will return to it often in the future.

I was blessed by this book more than I have words to review it. You will not regret reading this book. I also listened to the audio which added greatly to the book. This book is the first in the series and I plan on reading/ listening to the whole series. I hope young people read this book and talk about it with teachers, their parents/guardians and conversations arise. This is a great book to study in African-American/ American History. I do believe many people of ages 12+ can benefit from this reading.

Absolutely Beautiful
