Publisher's summary

In the emotional aftermath of her baby's sudden death, Em starts running. Soon she runs from her husband, to the airport, down to the Florida Gulf, and out to the loneliest stretch of Vermillion Key, where her father has offered the use of a conch shack he has kept there for years. Em keeps up her running - barefoot on the beach, sneakers on the road - and sees virtually no one.

This is doing her all kinds of good, until one day she makes the mistake of looking into the driveway of a man named Pickering. Pickering also enjoys the privacy of Vermillion Key, but the young women he brings there suffer the consequences. Will Em be next?

REALLY SCARED THE SHIT OUTTA ME

The scariest thing about this is that it really happens to real people. I love the fact that the woman in this story is a strong, survivor spirit and she does whatever she has to do! I also enjoyed the narration on this.

Not your typical Stephen King

Love Mare Winningham as the narrator. I think the story could have had a better ending, but in tru King style, leave them wanting more.
All in all a good book.

Keeps You Interested

From the beginning, I was enjoying the story. The way it was read was easy to follow and got me right in. It’s not very long so it would be great for a road trip.

way too short

It was my fault for not checking the time on the book. that was more of an essay or dhort story. I wasted a whole book credit on it. Good writing though. Good story.

Are the haters for real?

Lol. How could you say a bad word about anything this man puts to paper for our enjoyment? He is LITERALLY the Babe Ruth, The Tom Brady, The Michael Jordan of writing and we should all consider ourselves lucky to have been alive at the same time as him! Everything he writes is just great. There’s en element he creates in his novels that is just palpable throughout…it’s in his characters, it’s in his settings, and it’s in his dialogue. It’s all just perfect. I find myself wishing I lived in these little towns! Wishing I was a small character in the stories. They’re just comforting. He does it all. Suspense, mystery, and my favorite is when he tugs at the heartstrings. The man is on my personal Mt. Rushmore along with Eddie Vedder, Bill Belichick, and my own Father. Winningham does a remarkable job here once again with a slice of King’s work. She just seems like the only human on the planet that could’ve done this as well as it was done. She’s fabulous.
