Jessie Kincaid was fifteen and innocent when Cameron asked her to the prom. She lost her heart that night, but his plans didn't change. He left their small town to pursue his dreams.
Seventeen years later, a trip home leads Cameron McCade back to Salt Fork, Texas and the newly widowed Jessie Divine. Since his return, the fire between them burns as hot as ever. Can they take up where they left off? Can Jessie risk her heart again?

My favorite things are my family and my books! Depending on the day, not in that order. :)
The story was typical: Boy asks girl to the prom after breaking up with his girlfriend, girl says yes, boy takes her up to "make-out point", kisses her senseless and then walks away. Many years later boy returns as a doctor and decides that he loves girl and wants to see what they can do to make it work. Girl is hesitant because he broke her heart all those years ago and everyone seems to know it but him. DUH!!
All in all the flow of the story was smooth. The characters were likeable.
I actually ended up reading it rather than listening. The characters' voices I imagined in my head were much better than the audo.
Very immature. It was all I could do to finish it. The story lacked, the characters were kind of whack and the mother was not dealing with a full deck. The narrator spoke as though she were from Wisconsin pretending to be a valley girl. The whole thing was irritating. Sorry. Have NOOO idea how it got 5 stars. Good heavens! This was corny.
Just trying to find my next great read
I will not try another book by Anne Marie Novark. I have listened and will continue to listen to books by Erin Mallon.
I just finished Come Away with Me by Ruth Cardello and my next read will be LOST IN ME by Lexi Ryan
I have listened to other books by Erin Mallon. I think this had nothing to do with Erin Mallon's performance, but the story itself.
The heroine was the problem in this story. First she made this ridiculous promise (about the land) to her dead husband that she did not even love two years ago when he dead. However, she has no problem breaking a promise to her friend and Cameron's mother. Then she says ridiculous things to Cameron that she has to take it slow because of the memory of her dead husband AND remember this is not this is the husband that she did not even love...ever. Cameron was the one that she thought of for all those years. And then there are other ridiculous comments but I do not want to give those away. I do not know why Cameron even wanted to be with her. Sure the town "loved her" but she was ridiculous.
Well, sad to say that my husband couldn't handle my inner bad girl. He did something very stupid, and we are no longer together.
That he was able to go home and find his true love and happiness.
When they found out about her pregancy.
Her voice, and feelings to every character.
Yes, finding out they were going to have a baby.
Hope that she is going to write all of the brothers and sister story for this series.
The narrator did an awesome job.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I went into it not expecting much and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. I look forward to the other books in the series!
I'm an avid reader of Romance and a true romantic at heart. I also read and review in other sub-genres as well. Happy reading!
This is the first time I have a book by Anne Marie Novark. I’m not sure how I discovered it, but it was FREE with the audio narration for $1.99. The book description sounded interesting so I thought I would take a chance.
Jessie Kincaid is fifteen and falls in love with Cameron McCade when she goes to his prom as his date. Even though he is drawn to her, he has plans and she would interfere with those, so he kisses her goodbye, then leaves their small town behind.
Seventeen years later, he returns to Salt Fork, Texas for his mother’s 60th birthday party and runs into Jessie again. The spark is still as strong as it was when they were in high school, but he lives in Houston and has just been offered the position as head surgeon at M.D. Anderson. Dare he have a fling with Jessie, knowing nothing can come of it, or can he change the direction of his life for a chance at forever?
The Doctor Wears a Stetson is a fast-paced story with an interesting storyline. I liked Cameron’s character a lot and loved his mom. Ms. Novark writes with a great deal of emotion and tells a great story.
I had a problem with Jessie’s character. She was so wishy-washy and very immature. Her thought processes regarding her late husband were irrational in my estimate, and I wanted to slap her silly numerous times. I really wanted to like her character because she had a rough life between losing her parents, then her late husband, giving up on her dreams of being a journalist and had to take over her father’s business. She deserved to find happiness, but I just could not warm up to her.
I listened to the audio version with Erin Mallon and quite enjoyed her narrative. She reads with a great deal of emotion and gives the characters’ distinctive voices. I would definitely enjoy listening to her narration again.
Nonetheless, I did enjoy their romance and was happy that they found their happy ending. The story does have a very satisfying ending, and I may decide to read Dallas’ story, Cameron’s brother. If you enjoy an emotionally-driven romance with excellent pacing, then you will enjoy The Doctor Wears a Stetson. Happy reading!
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
17 years ago Cameron invited Jessie to go to his senior prom, she was only a freshman and could not believe that the gorgeous, talented, athlete actually wanted to go with her – even though she knew she was his second choice, after he and his longtime girlfriend broke up.
That night was magical and after she said goodbye to him, she was devastated to learn that he had continued with his plans to go off to college to become a doctor.
Fast forward to present day Jessie's dream of becoming a journalist is taken away as she must care for her dad and continue to run her dad's auto body shop. One day, you know who, brings his vehicle in for repairs. Cameron doesn't expect to see little Jessie is doing what she did back in high school, running her family business as her dad slowly weakens.
No more spoilers from me about their relationship status, if they're even is one.
The narration was above average and I enjoyed listening to the story. Kudos!
This is an easy listen. I will say, I recommend this for those who like cowboys and strong women. I'll listen again.
*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
"Love at long last"
Not like other love stories where an old flame or current love interest interferes with the budding romance. This time, it is all in her head!
Both characters are great and the tension keeps you wondering without getting annoyed with a pathetic female lead. Her issues are very real and his patience great.
A must read.
I look forward to the rest of the series.
