"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Story
Written seven years before The Town and the City officially launched his writing career, The Sea Is My Brother marks the pivotal point at which Kerouac began laying the foundations for his pioneering method and signature style. The novel chronicles the misadventures of two seamen who at first seem different but are really two sides of the same coin: 27-year-old Wesley Martin, who “loved the sea with a strange, lonely love,” and William Everhart, an assistant professor of English at Columbia College.

Racism, hatred, and claims to ethnic superiority have been tragic elements of the human condition since the Fall. In every manifestation, the root of racial sin is an unbelieving heart resistant to the grace and mercy of God. The gospel of Jesus Christ, therefore, is the only hope for any meaningful racial solutions. John Piper brings the light of the gospel to bear on racial issues in this groundbreaking book.

Came highly recommended and did not disappoint
I've been reading a lot of chuck Palahniuk and Brett Easton Ellis over the past year, I know sometimes we just have those years. If you're looking for another book in the category of bitingly sarcastic morally ambiguous narrator tackles an uncaring cold world, then this book will be dead on for you. In fact, this has to be up there for the best book I've ever read in that category.
It's really then a question of what you're looking for. Slight spoilers, but when half of your book is a character taking, then reacting internally to a psychological evaluation, you're going to weed out a large portion of readers. But if you think that sounds interesting, then you won't see it better executed anywhere.

Good pace and prose but a bit of a let down
I was very excited when downloading this as it had come very highly reccomended by Chuck Palahniuk and others and there is a strong flavour of Fight Club to storyline. It is a very gripping book that has a great sense of slickness and pace but the last 20 pages left me feeling a bit short changed. Worth a listen though, you may feel differently.

You Will Be Entertained
I listen to portions of audiobooks on audible everyday. I’ve listened to many audiobooks. Most I listen to at least twice. A select few are so interesting that I listen to them many times. After I’ve listened to one dozens of times, it becomes part of my life, a comfort, because I know exactly what it is going to happen in the story and it’s not going to change. After all that this is my first review I’ve ever left or rating I’ve ever given. That speaks for itself.
This book is very well written , it’s not boring at all, it’s Narrator is top notch and I enjoyed pretty much every word in it. Fantastic , Deep, Thought provoking,,, it’s really good. You’ll enjoy it! I certainly did. I’ll be listening to it many more times.

Great from start to finish.
Writing style always grabs me first. In audiobooks, the narrator can sometimes make it or break it. Content, sometimes, for me isn't even as important. This superb piece of work had all three: an interesting and novel (ha ha) novel, and you get 5 stars all around.

Not for Me
Any additional comments?
When the first quarter of the book was about a guy trying to beat a WAY-overcooked suicide evaluation, I started to wonder if there was actually going to be a plot. I never found out because due to the author dragging out what should have been a scene into an act, I decided this wasn't for me.

Good read for palahniuk fans
Surprised me. I love the story. Pacing and chapter length are good if your attention span is lacking like mine. I enjoyed the narrators voice quite a bit. Perfect for the role. Fan of Palahniuk and reminded me of themes and organization of invisible monsters. Google agrees too. Apparently Palahniuk loves this book.

OUTSTANDING
Excellent across the board. The writing was clear and sharp, the story was straight forward and consistent and the narrator just made it all come alive. I find myself wondering about the characters during my day.
