Critic reviews

"Since he received an Audie nomination for Volume I and an Audie Award for Volume II, it’s not surprising that Charlton Griffin gives another extraordinary performance in this volume of Sherlock Holmes works. In addition to impeccable interpretations of familiar characters - Holmes, Watson, Mycroft, and Lestrade - Griffin creates remarkably believable women. Griffin’s narration is fresh, flawless, and completely winning." (AudioFile magazine)

Wonderful

I love this series. It is well read and keeps you engaged in the stories. It can get a little confusing between stories as some other then go together but are played out of order. But you can figure out what is going on. I really enjoyed this and will continue to listen to it over and over.

A clever, entertaining and complete collection!

I am not a fan of mystery, but Sherlock Holmes and Watson are fun and fascinating characters. I could almost argue that Sherlock is more of a superheroic figure than the standard mystery protagonist. There's little chance for the reader to solve any case because Sherlock's depth of knowledge combined with his observational skills are superhuman. Still, there is a logical flow to the stories.

Sherlock appears to be someone who has quirks, yet he functions quite well in society. Autism and addiction come to mind, but I'm not trained in psychology. He even used drugs to manage his addiction to mental stimulation, but he eventually weans himself off when Watson insists.

The performance is fantastic! There are one or two instances where the voices of Watson and Holmes are mixed up, but that's a very small fraction of the whole.

My only regret with this work is that I've finished the collection.

BROVO!

I absolutely loved every minute! The narrator was excellent. I relished every story, devouring character every bit of their story! Watching the genius at work with his vast storehouse of knowledge melded with his superior powers of observation, intuition, and imagination to solve his cases.

Loved it

Mr Griffin was an excellent reader. He separated out all the characters with his voice. Never had read any Sherlock Holmes stories. This bundle was well worth it

Excellent complete collection

Excellent complete collection of one of my favorite authors. Enjoyed the performance of the narrator who had a good consistent voice for various characters. The quality of the recording was excellent. If you want a complete collection of the Sherlock Holmes (shouldn't everyone have one?), this is the one for you.

An interesting, and psychological view on logic.

Would you listen to The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes again? Why?

I hold Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the utmost respect; for his superior logic, morals, and intellect. Sherlock Holmes is the epitome of logical thinking, holding manifesting high principles for proper conduct. (Aside from his drug habits, and his disbelief in the supernatural ;) his intelligence, reason, understanding, thought, brainpower, sense, judgments, are all (very nearly) perfect. But Sherlock NOT was always right, and admitted it when he was not. An important fact, which the new BBC Sherlock Holmes did not have, and he was not rude without reason. He was, simply put, in love with logic. And did not ask for any kind of reword, of fame, or money; but did the work for the works sake alone, and was content. If you have a good taste for logical, or scientific thinking; I think you will enjoy what Arthur Conan Doyle has to offer.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes?

Definitely the quotes, I quote (you might say it is Sherlock’s life motto)
"When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

What about Charlton Griffin’s performance did you like?

I have heard better, Rob Inglis is my favorite, so basically anything that sounds like him is what I’m going to get. Not to say that Charlton Griffin’s performance was bad, on the contrary; he did an amazing job, and a stunning voice.

If you could rename The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes, what would you call it?

I have nothing wrong with the title of this story.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book for the advanced reader, because of the large vocabulary, and the intense (and sometimes graphic) descriptions, that follows from being involved with crimes such as murder. To be frank, it would simply go over the heads of the average idiot.
