Never a dull moment!

I listened to them straight through, and never was there a dull moment. With the stories that Doyle conjured and Simon Vance's voice, I was lost in a smokey world of Sherlock's mind as he untied the threads of the knots he was handed.

Had to remind myself "Sherlock is Fictional"

Would you listen to The Complete Sherlock Holmes again? Why?

Sir Arthur just described everything so colorful. Dr. Watson was talking like he was there for every step that Holmes took. I still think of them as real, I can understand why Holmes was so popular.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course it was Dr. Watson, looking through his eyes to see what Holmes was like, he acted like he could see in heart.

Which scene was your favorite?

The whole book, it changes in each story.

If you could take any character from The Complete Sherlock Holmes out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Dr. Watson, he's telling the story....

Any additional comments?

First of all, I'm a nonfiction only person, till now. I listened to biographies about Sir Arthur before ever reading or listening to any of his books. Watched the movies about Sherlock old and new and loved them all. I thought it was time to actually listen to the stories he wrote. Was really impressed, never realized how descriptive he was. How he put the stories together, it's like you are back in the late 1800's.

Classic

Where does The Complete Sherlock Holmes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is certainly the longest!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, although I didn't listen to others in between.

Any additional comments?

The view of women is of the "they are mysterious creatures" variety, not terribly surprising given the period. There is terminology that is definitely offensive - mostly racist.

One effect of listening to one story after another is that themes become easier to spot than if you dip in to a story here, a story there. Americans are often a source of danger. We have strange brotherhoods and rituals that drive the plot in story after story.

I did notice an awful lot of audio errors - dropped words, stutters in the playback. I was streaming it through an Echo, but the same error would appear in the same spot if I rewound, so I don't think it was a streaming or buffering issue.
