Publisher's summary

Witty Wodehousess best-loved creation is the master-servant team of Bertie Wooster, the charming nitwit, and Jeeves, his effortlessly superior valet and protector. Newsweek says "they are at their best in The Code of the Woosters." This installment involves Gussie Fink-Nottle, the soupey Madeline Bassett, old Pop Bassett, the unscrupulous Stiffy Byng, the Rev. H.P. ("Stinker") Pinker, an eighteenth-century cow-creamer, and a liberal dose of the imperious Aunt Dahlia. There you have it: jolly good fun and grins galore! Jeeves once more to the rescue!

The great PG Wodehouse’s greatest work

This peerless masterpiece tops them all.

If you have sampled Wodehouse’s brilliant badinage, you know its sublime silliness. Code of the Woosters brings that badinage to the bally limit, as Bertie might say.

What’s more, Jonathan Cecil’s genius for voicing characters enables him to leap from one to the other like the chamoix of the Swiss Alps leaping from crag to crag - as Bertie DID say.

Do yourself a favor and listen to this. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

great performance of a great story.

great performance of a great story. oddly, thirteen chapters were divided into 12 segments for audible which was irritating but did not spoil enjoyment too much overall.

Wonderful fun!

One of my favorite comic novels! Bertie Wooster and Jeeves face a daunting array of problems but Jeeves manages to pull Bertie out of the soup even when things seem hopeless. The wacky cast of characters is expertly conveyed by Jonathan Cecil’s marvelous narration. I repeatedly laughed out loud. Relax and listen to this tale of cow creamers, newts, policeman’s helmets and many romantic misunderstandings!

This is a hoot

It's Oliver and Hardy (but not Oliver & Hardy slapstick stupid) meets Downton Abbey. LOL funny in spots. Very listenable.

Marvelous British farce!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I thought it enormously clever and lighthearted. I even suggested to my musician son and daughter-in-law that they look into turning the thing into a community theater play, a la "Lend me a Tenor."

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Code of the Woosters?

Like tripping over one's own feet, the noble code of the Woosters kept getting our hero into one pickle after another.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Cecil’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not heard him before, but will look for other books he narrates.

If you could take any character from The Code of the Woosters out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Aunt Dalia. What an audacious yet loving rascal she is!

Any additional comments?

Fun listen.

A wonderful book

One of the most enjoyable books I've listened to. Understated, gentle humor set in a bygone age that seems simlpler and idylic.

The Code of the Woosters

If you like Bertie and Jeeves, this is one of the best! As I listened to the book, I kept chuckling and laughing to the point where people wondered what I was doing! Bertie gets himself tangled up in two or three different twists, all of which center around an antique cow creamer that most of his relatives and aquaintences seem to covet. As usual, Jeeves comes to his rescue just as things are hopeless..

My favorite Wodehouse creation

For me, this book, narrated by this near divine voice actor, delivers more embarrassing laughing out loud moments as I walk the dog, grocery shop or ride busses and elevators than any other in my Audible library. I own other PG Wodehouse stories and enjoy them all, but this to me is the most enjoyable.

I went far too long between Wodehouse books

Any additional comments?

Who would have thought an 18th century cow creamer could be the focal of a story? You can't help but crack a smile as you sit back and enjoy the dialog brought to life by Jonathan Cecil. If you're having a bad day, P.G. Wodehouse will come to the rescue!

I found my local library has most of the Wodehouse collection available through Overdrive so I may not be rating any more here.

If you haven't given Wodehouse a go yet, start with this one or Right Ho, Jeeves. You won't be disappointed.
