Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life old man with a fondness for vodka goes on an unexpected adventure in this whimsical novel — perfect for fans of Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health—and tomorrow is his hundredth birthday. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested, and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption. So he decides to escape.

He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.

Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared has charmed millions of people around the world.

One of the funniest books I ever read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I laughed through this book. The book describes two stories, one of Allan Karlsson, a100 years old man at present, and the other of the unfolding of his life. His life would not shame a James bond movie, tied with historical events and figues and seasoned with a great sense of humor that brings to life differant historical figures. I surely recommend this one!

An amusing story

This was an amusing story that had a history lesson within it. The narrator was the perfect choice for the characters in the book.

Some funny parts but overall a boring listen

I wanted to get into the story but I just couldn't. Fans of historical fiction may be able to stay with it better. The story craft is done well, but in the end, I didn't finish it.

Captivating

An absolutely delightful combination of murder mystery, heist, war story (including espionage). Plus a love story, and a colorful menagerie of unlikely friendships. I couldn’t stop listening.
