Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life old man with a fondness for vodka goes on an unexpected adventure in this whimsical novel — perfect for fans of Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health—and tomorrow is his hundredth birthday. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested, and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption. So he decides to escape.

He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.

Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared has charmed millions of people around the world.

Pretty good story

While this story is a bit fantastical and reads a bit like a different take on Forrest Gump, it is very enjoyable and worth a listen.

About 6 hours too long...

This audio book was well written and well read but soooo tooo looong. It was mildly entertaining for the first 4 hours or so and I did enjoy it, but after awhile I started to lose interest and had to force myself to keep going. I finally had to take a break around the halfway point because I just couldn't face another 6+ hours. Eventually I did get back to it just because I wanted to see how it turns out . I enjoyed the narrator ( although he had such a soothing voice that I fell asleep more than once and had to rewind and replay to hear what I had missed). Overall, I enjoyed it but it was just way too long.

Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove

Entertaining and whimsical. Narrator was clever. transitions between flashbacks very smooth. Watched the movie afterwards. Also good.

Delightful Story

I really enjoyed the "history lesson" that wove its way throughout this intriguing story. The tale is told along the lines of Forrest Gump and entertains immensely.

A fantastic look at history through the eyes of an “innocent” participant. Thoroughly enjoyable listen.
