Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life old man with a fondness for vodka goes on an unexpected adventure in this whimsical novel — perfect for fans of Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health—and tomorrow is his hundredth birthday. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested, and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption. So he decides to escape.

He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.

Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared has charmed millions of people around the world.

Fun Ride!

This book was so much fun! I hated for it to end. I’m sure I looked crazy laughing in the car and on my walks. This book will definitely lift your spirits.

Not my favorite

I was looking for a quirky, fun read, so this book should have fit the bill perfectly, but it just fell short for me. It reminded me a lot of Forrest Gump, but weirder and much darker. I got really bored with the absurd story and the disjointed storytelling halfway through and almost quit. Not terrible, but definitely not my favorite. If I could give it 2.5 stars I would, but it just wasn't a 3-star for me.

Fun book

This is initially confusing but don’t give up. The present day story is woven with scenes from the past and individual chapters begin with the announcement of the date which I found distracting. It only impacts the story to the extent the current events made on this unbelievably lucky dude. By the last third of the book I was laughing at loud as the characters tied up the loose ends and found a special version of happily ever after.

Cleaver and Comical

This was a creatively written story. It took me a bit to get into it and I almost gave up, but I gave this read about another half hour and I am happy that I did. This was a cleaver story and I enjoyed it very much, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Such an imaginative funny entertaining novel

The narrator is perfect for this novel too. Alan's voice is distinct from any of the other characters.

As this is a novel that switches back and forth from "present day" to different years in Alan's life sometimes it's a little hard to figure out where you are in terms of the story line but a little rewinding and sorting through dates, which are announced in the beginning of the chapters, Any knowledge of world history helps although I will admit I'm a complete "Amanda" meaning idiot when it comes to history and I struggled a bit but it's fine, really. Loved the book, and the narrator adds something extra special making it worth listening instead of reading it.
