Publisher's summary

A larger-than-life old man with a fondness for vodka goes on an unexpected adventure in this whimsical novel — perfect for fans of Forrest Gump and A Man Called Ove.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he’s still in good health—and tomorrow is his hundredth birthday. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn’t interested, and he’d like a bit more control over his vodka consumption. So he decides to escape.

He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.

Quirky and utterly unique, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared has charmed millions of people around the world.

Was Jonason paid by the word?

Up to about chapter 20, the story is quite enjoyable. After that, there seems to be a lot of unnecessary flashbacks. I found myself skipping several chapters to get back to the meat of the story. It almost has a “Forrest Gump” feel. I would recommend this story, but keep the “next chapter” button at hand.

Thoroughly Enjoyed It!

I really enjoyed this haphazard journey through the majority of the 1900's culminating in such a serendipitous way.

Enjoyable tall tale with twists and turns

Quite a fun book to listen to. Nothing fancy in the performance, it’s the story that is enjoyable. It’s a good tale with good, clean fun.

Great book but many better to read.

This book and it's story was fun and I am glad for tye experience. I think it would be much more by being read by oneself instead of listening. This book is very narrated; the combo of that and the voice style of the performer caused my mind to wonder occasionally and also brought on sleepiness easily, which isn't good when you're listening on your way home from a long day at work. The book was interesting, funny and imaginative, I fully recommend a good read. I also knocked a point off for the performance because the "S's" were delivered often with a squeal and was piercing.

Fantastic Novel

A friend recommended this book and from the first chapter I was hooked. Traversing history in a fictional but accurate historical timeline was a brilliant bit of writing. The humor was spot on and I found myself laughing out-loud. Highly recommend this book to anyone
