Not Your Average Tale

What did you love best about That Ghoul Ava?

I loved that "That Ghoul Ava" was unique. It combined drama with humor and likable characters that made this a fun book to listen too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ava, of course, although I seem to have developed a soft spot for Lisa.

Which scene was your favorite?

The most interesting scene was when Ava woke up and discovered what she had become. She reacted in a way I feel many people would react.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have listened to this book in one sitting, but this was mainly because of the author's writing. The narrator did a fantastic job capturing Ava's attitude, but I felt her performance at times was stiff and that she lacked the enthusiasm to give each character his or her own voice.

A ghoulish good book!!!

If you could sum up That Ghoul Ava in three words, what would they be?

Funny, awesome and entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of That Ghoul Ava?

Glitter dust LOL!! After the Twilight comment in the beginning :)

Have you listened to any of Celia Aurora de Blas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first e-book.

Who was the most memorable character of That Ghoul Ava and why?

Ava, She can't always 'get' the word she wants to say, how often has that happened to you and me? She's a regular gal with the same problems we have she's just dead now. Her attitude is priceless!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. I love the whole zombie, vampire genre and now I have another thing to add to it. This is a short book at 2 hours, you can listen to it while cleaning house, I did, and it made the time fly. Thank you for a great story!

Can't get enough!

What made the experience of listening to That Ghoul Ava the most enjoyable?

I had never heard of a ghoul that I wanted to befriend before. The only ghouls I had read of I wanted nothing to do with! However, Ava makes you want to befriend one! If only! Ava will make you rethink everything you thought you knew. Its a great story!

I love that ghoul Ava!

Being that the audiobook is only 2 hours long, I was able to finish it in listen. I love the story line and am looking forward to the second book, which I've already downloaded. I can foresee myself zooming through the entire series in a matter of days.
The narrator did an excellent job!
There's dozens and dozens of other reviews that break down the summary of the book. So I won't go into that. I'm just adding my stars to the mix.
This audiobook was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. (Thank you Mr. Brown!)
Now onto book 2..............

Love it & love Ava

First off TW Brown is the bomb! He's one of my favorite authors. I love this series just as much as The Dead series.
The story is original & I'm glad it's about a Ghoul & not your typical supernatural creatures. Eva is a hoot! Don't let the silly covers fool you this is a great series!

I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.

The latest greatest thing in urban fantasy!

Ava is a ghoul and didn’t know it at first. Indeed, life sucked and her human life ended one night. The next day she awoke and the changes were already done. Sunlight burned like a laser. Her sense of smell and hearing were intense. Teeth and claws appeared and her skin was a uniform grey. Oh, and the dead smelled divinely tasty.

This first book contains two short stories about Ava and her side kick Lisa. They work fine together as one happens shortly after the other chronologically. I so enjoyed this book! Ava is the next thing in urban fantasy. She has a sharp it and a snarky tongue. I repeatedly found myself snort laughing at the dark humor.

Ava has no grief over eating the naughty or the dead and I like this about her. After all, she has now entered a seedier world where the questionable and evil roam free. She doesn’t get all emotional over it; she simply deals with it, often with her shark mouth.

Lisa is a great sidekick because she is so very human. She’s messed up, fell in with a bad crowd. Yet she has maintained her sweetness and Ava is rather protective of this. Together, they are a well balanced team.

I especially like that Ava isn’t your typical Causcasian heroine. Hooray for diversity in fiction! Toss in the equivalent of a psychic gang boss for the area, a few vampires, and the run-of-the-mill street punks, and you have a very entertaining story!

The Narration: Celia Aurora de Blas was awesome! I absolutely loved her as Ava. She was so fun and I really felt she brought the humor to life in her performance.
