Publisher's summary

Katie Wilkinson has found her perfect man at last. He's everything she imagined she wanted in a partner. But one day, without explanation, he disappears from her life, leaving behind only a diary for her to read.

This diary is a love letter written by a new mother named Suzanne for her baby son, Nicholas. As Katie reads this touching document, it becomes clear that the lover who has just left her is the husband and father in this young family. She reads on, filled with terror and hope, as she struggles to understand what has happened - and whether her new love has a prayer of surviving.

Music?

I really hate the music in the book! It takes away from the story and is so annoying!

Very depressing book!

Did the author plan to make this sad? I have read sad books that make me cry. This book just depressed me. This is the first I have read or listened to from this author and I am seriously thinking about not ever reading or listening to another book of his! He had no compassion for his characters; he was just trying to make a sensation.

Tripe.

Just tripe. Hated everything. It’s like a freaking never ending Facebook post. I would recommend it to Serena Waterford.

Pure Pap

I couldn't believe James Patterson could be so trite. The dialogue in this book was about as cheesy as a cheddar omelette - WITH SYRUP.

Too cutesy for me. Give me back "Judge and Jury" or "Cross" or "Mary Mary." Save me from another trip to Candyland!

Rather dull

A formula story...beautiful woman has found perfect man; kind loving, gentle, honest, poet, carpender. Then he ditches her just when she is ready to commit. Naturally, the thing that makes him believe he must break up with her just makes her love him more. Once again the writer has broken that sacred rule--the writer is forbidden to have his character ask questions to move the plot (why has he done this to me? I was so certain he was the one for me...why? why?). The writer must lead the reader to ask the questions. One reason you might buy it--no sex (or was it just not memorable?), no swearing, no immoral behavior. If you must have something rated G or PG, this book is for you.

A good swimming pool book. Nothing more

It reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks book - maybe an unfair stereotype since the only Sparks book I have ever read was The Notebook, and that was years and years ago. At any rate, it was a cheesy plot that was totally predictable. Sorry I wasted an Audible credit. The narration was good, but the occasional musical accompaniments were totally unnecessary and annoying.

How? Why? Make it stop.

Maybe the saccharine narrator’s voice is partly to blame, but I found this book nearly insufferable. I guess repetitive, cliché descriptions and Love Boatesque idealism isn’t for me. I stayed for the plot, but the gagged multiple times from the overdone sweetness of the writing.

Not his best work.....

I had high hopes for this book, as I enjoy James Patterson very much. Here are my thoughts:

1. The narration was terrible. The narrator used such a phony unbelievable southern accent for Kate, it was hard to not giggle.

2. I dislike the use of music at dramatic points in audiobooks. The dramatic music was more of a distraction to me than a heightening of the drama.

3. The diary to Nicholas seemed so strange. Why would a mother write such intimate details and accounts of her love life to her son? As long as I forgot this was a diary to a child I was ok.

My feeling is that this book would be a better read, than a listen. The story is not horrible, but the narration and music really turned me off.

Too sappy for me

I almost didn't finish listening because it was way to sappy for me, but I sped up the audio to triple time and made it through because I wanted to know how it ended. If you like sappy Hallmark movies you would probably like this.
