Publisher's summary

Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband's betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has made a name for herself as a top prosecutor while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter.

But everything changes when Alexa is handed her latest case: the trial of accused serial killer Luke Quentin. Alexa prepares for a high-stakes trial...until threatening letters are addressed to her beautiful 17-year-old daughter, Savannah. Alexa is certain that Quentin is behind the letters - and that they are too dangerous to ignore. Suddenly she must make the toughest choice of all - and send her daughter back to the very place she swore she would never return to: the place where her marriage ended in heartbreak...her ex-husband's world of Southern tradition, memories of betrayal, and the antebellum charm of Charleston.

Now, while Alexa's trial builds to a climax in New York, her daughter is settling into southern life, discovering a part of her family history and a father she barely knows. As secrets are exposed and old wounds are healed, Alexa and Savannah, after a season in different worlds, will come together again - strengthened by the challenges they have faced, and with Savannah now at home in the Southern world her mother fled.

A novel that will catch you off guard at every turn, Southern Lights is Danielle Steel at her electrifying best.

Liked the characters.

The story was well written and I liked that it showed that most Southerners are very friendly people.

meh!

This was not my favorite Danielle Steele book. I loved the narrator. the story was extremely predictable. I kept thinking a more complex plot was coming and then story ends.

Disappointing

Detective and Women Sleuths was minimal. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen but just continued to be boring.

Sleepy narration

I loved the story but was very disappointed in the narrator. He was so dry. He tried to put emotion to it, but I felt it was very sing-songy. I also feel like a woman would have been far more effective as the novel was from Alex's point of view.

Nice read

Have not read Danielle Steele in years. At one point she was my favorite author. Still a bit predictable but a nice, pass the time story!

Southern Lights

An intriguing, Danielle Steel-like novel with a happy ending. Interesting detective work, nicely done.

I don’t know if I can finish this one

I normally like DS books but I’m on Chapter 10 and this one is really slow. I’ve already dropped and picked it up several times and already finished a different book in the meantime. The performance doesn’t help. His voice isn’t great and his southern accents are awful. I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it.

Just alright

I kept waiting for something to happen. It was truly boring. Glad it was an audio book that allowed me to do chores because I never would’ve made it to the end if I had to hold a book and do the actual reading.
