Publisher's summary

Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband's betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has made a name for herself as a top prosecutor while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter.

But everything changes when Alexa is handed her latest case: the trial of accused serial killer Luke Quentin. Alexa prepares for a high-stakes trial...until threatening letters are addressed to her beautiful 17-year-old daughter, Savannah. Alexa is certain that Quentin is behind the letters - and that they are too dangerous to ignore. Suddenly she must make the toughest choice of all - and send her daughter back to the very place she swore she would never return to: the place where her marriage ended in heartbreak...her ex-husband's world of Southern tradition, memories of betrayal, and the antebellum charm of Charleston.

Now, while Alexa's trial builds to a climax in New York, her daughter is settling into southern life, discovering a part of her family history and a father she barely knows. As secrets are exposed and old wounds are healed, Alexa and Savannah, after a season in different worlds, will come together again - strengthened by the challenges they have faced, and with Savannah now at home in the Southern world her mother fled.

A novel that will catch you off guard at every turn, Southern Lights is Danielle Steel at her electrifying best.

Southern Lights

An intriguing, Danielle Steel-like novel with a happy ending. Interesting detective work, nicely done.

Ok ish

There were times where I thought the writing was just going on because it had to and it felt a bit drawn out.

A good story and even though I just had to finish it, it definitely could have been shorter.

Very good strong woman story

Where does Southern Lights rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

Southern Lights ranks in the upper 25% of the other audiobooks I have listened to so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Southern Lights?

I love a good story about a good mother daughter relationship. This one was very good. I loved the description of the shopping sprees in Charleston and the ones in Europe.

What about Nick Podehl???s performance did you like?

Nick did a very good performance with this book. He didn't try to get into one of those disgusting voices that so many other readers do. He was straight forward and verbally told the story. Good job Nick!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My extreme reaction with this book was the relationship between the grandmother, mother and daughter. Three generations of love, respect and mutual uderstanding between three strong women. Didn't laugh or cry, but smiled a lot.

Any additional comments?

I have always loved books with women lawyers who are no non sense, smart and competient. Women who do what they have to do and do it well. This book had all of these qualities. Good job Danielle.

Southern Lights

A touching story of the old south ideals. A family who sticks to their southern ways and have no use for Notherners.

Southern Lights

Any additional comments?

Southern Lights is just over nine hours of listening, read by Nick Podehl.

Danielle Steel is one of the most prolific writers in America today. As a reader, you either love her or hate her, there really is no in-between, and she has legions of fans. If you are ever in the mood for sweet romance, meaning a teenaged girl can read the book, pick up a Danielle Steel novel. It’s easy to become absorbed, the stories are not gray-matter growth material; they aren’t intended to be. Danielle Steel is a die-hard romantic, and directs her talents to that end, pretty much exclusively.

Most stories involve a strong female lead, as does Southern Lights. There are ome unique, and sometimes quirky, characters and the trials and tribulations of each traverse the pages. A typical, Danielle Steelesque, satisfying conclusion.

Southern Lights is a nice picture of the modern day south and the cultural morays of the southern people. Interesting.

I’m pretty simple when it comes to critique of a narrator. If I don’t have to re-wind to determine who-is-talking-to-who, I’m good. Ergo, Nick Podehl does a nice reading, a decent production.

Did I say ‘boy gets girl’? It is a Danielle Steel, after all! Enjoy.

Needed one more high point

very good, but went downhill at the end. I expected one more note or phone call. one more highpoint from the trial.

Missed subplot

I thought for sure that Savannah or Alexa would fall prey or be taken hostage in the prosecutor’s story line. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.
