Publisher's summary

The next-to-last novel in Stephen King's seven-volume magnum opus, Song of Susannah is a fascinating key to the unfolding mystery of the Dark Tower.

To give birth to her "chap", demon-mother Mia has usurped the body of Susannah Dean and used the power of Black Thirteen to transport to New York City in the summer of 1999. The city is strange to Susannah...and terrifying to the "daughter of none" who shares her body and mind.

Saving the Tower depends not only on rescuing Susannah but also on securing the vacant lot Calvin Tower owns before he loses it to the Sombra Corporation. Enlisting the aid of Manni senders, the remaining ka-tet climbs to the Doorway Cave...and discovers that magic has its own mind. It falls to the boy, the billy bumbler, and the fallen priest to find Susannah-Mia, who in a struggle to cope, with each other and with an alien environment, "go todash" to Castle Discordia on the border of End-World. In that forsaken place, Mia reveals her origins, her purpose, and her fierce desire to mother whatever creature the two of them have carried to term.

Eddie and Roland, meanwhile, tumble into western Maine in the summer of 1977, a world that should be idyllic but isn't. For one thing, it is real, and the bullets are flying. For another, it is inhabited by the author of a novel called Salem's Lot, a writer who turns out to be as shocked by them as they are by him.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Don't miss the other volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Critic reviews

"There's something about a crippled, black, schizophrenic, civil rights activist-turned-gunslinger whose body has been hijacked by a white, pregnant demon from a parallel world that keeps a seven-volume story bracingly strong as it veers toward its Armageddon-like conclusion....The biggest cliffhanger of King's career." Time is a wheel!

This review is for the entire series!

What a beautiful journey! With a lot of spins and turns, but nonetheless beautiful. There are some amazing pieces of imagination there, that will let you think about them, not only for a little while but for a long time. Probably you will wander why only 4 stars then. Well, I would have loved to see more action, and that the books are written more fast paced. They are too descriptive, and takes a long time to get from A to B. I could not say that I burned with impatience to get into the next book, and the next, as fast as I could, but I was still curious, and more than in one occasion pleasantly surprised. #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Want to keep reading

As all of the King books I have listen to, this one was no different in how I enjoyed the story. The explanation at the end of this audiobook giving details into King’s writing process made me love the story all the more. It’s such a sweeping saga. It makes you feel for each character. The characters themselves are fully realized in this series. This entry in the Dark Tower series by itself is entertaining and well worth the time.

!!! Spoilers ahead !!!

This entry ties in with other works from Stephen King, and it feels so sweet. Enjoying the other works from Stephen King and reading this series makes me love his writing all the more.

In particular, my favorite blend in the series is Salems lot. It fits the story well. Although my favorite book so far from King by itself is Pet Sematary, this series in it’s entirety is my favorite of his continued work.

revisiting worth it

I read this book already but this really brings it to life the imagery from someone else's voice is just somehow better. I suggest if you've read the book before and you're looking into this you should buy it. Then listen to it over and over.

Awesome!

I loved the story, as I knew I would. I'm starting the next one as soon as I finish writing this. There are so many questions still unanswered!
I also really enjoyed the "journal" but I won't say much more on that so people reading this review can be as shocked as I was. I only say it's definitely worth listening to.

A good one

An exciting and quick-paced tale (especially after the previous leaden installment). Even Guidall performs better. It gets weird and fun at the end, raising expectations and enthusiasm for the following story.
